Bummed for GC Junior. Hope he feels better soon! Being so young, he should heal up just fine, but he'll be an unhappy camper for a while.

I've been wanting a new bike for a while. I've been using a $300 generic china aluminum frame with SRAM Rival for a few years now, 25,000 miles on it. It's also a 56cm and I think I really need a 54. Before I took my time off the bike, I was going to hold off for a team bike and pick one up on discount going into the next season.
Now I'm not sure what to do. I could in theory hold off and wait for a team frame or bike again. But I'm unsure what team I'll join for next year. And with no race results from this year, I may not get a great discount on the bike and it may not be worth the wait. Unless of course I want to match the rest of the team. I'm not even sure what the "rules" are on this, it seems most of the guys at my level have matching frames on each team, but I know they aren't getting them for free. So they are selling their old frame, swapping components, then putting on the new team frame each year? Is it uncool to be the one guy with a totally unmatching frame?
Anyways, I'm not sure if I should wait or not. But I'd like something a little bit nicer at some point, but I feel like I keep putting it off.

people actually give a **** about this stuff? unless your getting it for free, ride what you've got or what you can afford. if your teammates care that you can't buy a matching frame...they're ********.

I was really looking forward to racing tomorrow! (Same race as CDR.) Currently sitting in the ER @ 3am with my 10 year old, who fell out of his bunkbed and broke his leg, spiral fracture of tibia and fibula. Poor guy is in a lot of pain and this is a busy urban ER (Kingston NY).
I ended up working on my mountain bike. I want to pull two types of trailers with it. One will hold Junior. The other, which I'll pull on solo rides, will hold some stuff to sweep sand/etc off the shoulders. When it's a reality I'll put pictures and stuff up, but until then it'll just be a figment of my imagination. I already have the two trailers and most of the stuff for the imaginary trailer, just need to assemble it.

Lol, I tend to agree. Just didn't know if it was like one of the rules or something to be that guy.

i figure what's cool is winning, nobody really notices what frame(s) your team is riding.

On the other hand when I had a chance to get a Liquigas scheme Campy Record Cannondale with an SRM (basically the SRM was free based on the price) I jumped at it. Totally didn't match my kit but whatever, at that price I couldn't pass up the bike.
So if I were you I'd think about teams and if you really want to get a new bike then get it after you decide the team thing. If the team affiliation stuff changes regularly then get a black bike.
Black - I ordered my second frame in black because it matches everything, hides grease, you can touch it up (for a 20/20 job - 20 mph or 20 feet away) with a Sharpie or any black paint or any black nail polish, it never goes out of style, and it works as a background for any stickers I might stick on the frame. Hard to beat.

No pain since clavicle surgery (3 days ago). Actually, none since the fracture. Surgeon said it went together perfectly. Follow up today, assistant said I'm a quick healer. I was told to wean myself off the sling (basically use it for safety) and to go ahead and use my arm if I want but no heavy lifting yet.
Surgeon wasn't there, and had apparently said no riding for a couple weeks, but I am cleared to ride the trainer, hands on the bars if I can do it. PT starts tomorrow, absolutely no clue what to expect.
No spotting gymnasts with my left arm for a while though!
Oh, and I am now cleared to shower as well. That'll be nice after 3 days lol.

I'm curious what they tell you for PT. Kaiser never sent me to any PT or suggested it.

The muscle relaxers I got are ok, the pain meds are too strong for me. I don't like it.
Found a small hairline fracture in my helmet, I may replace it but I'm not sure if it's necessary. Looking at giro savant for 63 bucks or giro atmos for 130. I wonder if the atmos is worth twice the price. Same weight but I guess it feels like a better fit? I don't know.

20 of the past 40 hours have been spent in the hospital. But finally the saga is over, my 10 year old is home and happy. The happiness is partly thanks to the Percoset, but mostly because his leg is finally stabilized. No more bone crepitus (or screaming).
So tired.
So tired.

Helmets aren't a place to be cheap. You can be cheap (for price), but don't mess around with cracks or issues. Needs to work if you go down again!
I've always preferred the specialized helmets. I had a propero that I wore for 4 years (which basically looked like the top of the line sworks at the time) until I finally had to replace it after it basically corroded from sweat and no longer fit on my head. I've now had a propero ii for a couple years (which basically looks like the top of the line sworks now), and love it. Sure it may have 10% less cooling, or whatever, but it's 90% the same helmet/technology for half the price. And still protects my head from bad things.

Starting work for the 2015 Spring Series. The first thing to do is to secure a venue and that's what I'm working on.
