Last week was an early rest week, too much work and traveling to do a real training week. This week, I'm hitting the 2x20s, got some in Tuesday and today, still doing some Z2/Z3 endurance stuff in between. But I'm starting to get deep into build phase, so ramping up the intensity stuff pretty steadily. Wee. I'm reeaaally starting to itch for the races to start, right now it's mostly work and the payoff hasn't arrived yet.

Took a much needed break yesterday and it paid off. Felt good on my 2.5 hour ride today. No hard efforts, but the pace stayed high with minimal effort. Hopefully tomorrows 80mile early morning hammerfest goes well.

1 easy hour. After the last 2 days, my legs felt _real_ heavy. They started to free up just a little at the end, so that was good.

2x20s yesterday, felt pretty good, legs were hurting a little more from wednesday but it was fine. 2 hours with 5x5 @ 100% tonight. I have a rest week starting tomorrow and I am super excited about that! I havn't had a rest week once yet other than when I was sick which I only missed 2 rides. Should be fun, hopefully I'll see some improvements afterwards, I feel like I've been plateaud since last year, once the snow melts and the sun comes out I'll be sure to really tell if that's the deal or not.

Delighted to find a guy with a bad cold take the seat next to me on my east coast flight Wednesday. By the time the weekend rolls around, sure enough I feel like crap. Maybe some endurance miles tomorrow.

80miles today. Legs felt fine, but I just wasn't there mentally. Weird how that happens sometimes, really don't know why.

you just described most rides in the middle of the winter time for me. Sadly i'm becoming more and more of a sprinter all the time. I hate riding hard, and really kind of have to be forced to ride hard in a lot of situations (if the effort is longer than 5 minutes, sub 5 minutes i can generally deal with the pain).

Oh, and while I am not sure of the exact systems involved, i'm pretty sure that airplanes are some of the most unsanitary and disease-ridden atmospheres that you can be in.

They must have to introduce new oxygen into the system, and im sure there is some crude scrubbing and/or filtration systems employed, but i'll bet a ****-ton of all that communal air is recycled.

I use my "Saturday long ride" as a way to catch up on the world news -- listening to various podcasts also helps me stay motivated.

My Saturday ride started with me walking out the door of my apartment building, holding my bike, falling down the stairs on the stoop. My back is sore today.

So I've talked about it before, but one of my main limiters has always been day-to-day recovery. If I do intervals or go really hard, I'll often need a couple days to bounce back. It's just the way my body reacts.

Well over the last few weeks, I've been bouncing back quicker than normal. It's weird. I've ridden hard 9 days of the last 15. The other days have been either very easy or Z2-3 endurance/tempo. This morning was a good example. I was on the bike 4+ hours yesterday with the last hour being our club hammer ride. Today I got up and figured I'd be knackered. Legs didn't feel too bad walking around the house getting ready. Had my black tea and hit the bike. I wanted to ride intervals, but thought I might have to settle for Z2-3. After the first 15 seconds on the bike I though, "Nope, I'm good to go."

So today was a' pyramid of fun'. 1-1-2-5-2-1-1. Power bogies were CP2, CP5 and CP20. I hit them all, which surprised the hell out of me. The first couple 1 minute intervals were more like CP1.5. None of it was easy, but hitting those numbers felt really good.

After the hard stuff I rode to my club group-up and road about 20 minutes with them on the way home, so not quite an hour of riding after the intervals. All in all, a really good day for me.

The only thing I'm still kind of incredulous about is that I'm recovering so well. It's a strange, but a very welcomed thing. If I'm not careful here, I might run into some decent form (for me). Now, I'm not going to be getting in the break with a pair of loafers on, but I do think I'm going to be doing well enough to go play. Huzzah!

Today I was passed by Chris Horner on my training ride. I rode for 3 hrs on the fg, 42/18t today.

I could tell he was definitely going easier than I was. Super smooth pedal stroke, high cadence, 0 upper body movement, relaxed shoulders, quiet demeanor. So Pro.
A part of me wanted to hit the gas so I could ride up next to him and be like "Chris, Chris, Chris Oh Emm Gee u da man!", but im sure he gets that all the time so I didn't bother him.

Did 2 hours yesterday finishing with 5x5 @ 100%. The 5x5 was awesome. Honestly speaking here, the lactic acid was so nice.. I havn't felt a good amount of lactic acid (the one that makes your legs feel like they're being stabbed with a dull knife) for a while. It was great to feel it like I did last night again. I believe that I broke a plateau aswell over the last week, and hopefully this rest week will ensure that, I would really hate to go backwards. But either way, I'm so happy right now .
