Growing up I think the perception was that the saddle should be high enough so one's leg would be pretty much straight at the 6 position, but if it's like that, it's hard to produce power through the entire stroke.

Given your issues with the hip and all that, were I you I'd focus on building power in a position I know I'm comfortable in before I'd tweak contact points.

does anyone get nostalgic about past seasons? i blame cdr for telling me I was "flying" two years ago. granted, I got limited results and the things that make me happy about that season are pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but looking back i was going pretty decent. did some flat p123 rr in jersey and was on the pointy end going into moves and stuff, there's some awesome picture of me from the ccns kermis surrounded by some of the better NE crit riders, hell, I almost even finished tokeneke with the front group in the 3s.
But sometimes it's a reminder to appreciate the success when we have it. I'm sure many of us here could win a race and still feel Ike we aren't fit or fast enough. There have been times I was in better shape and didn't appreciate it.

Regarding yourself, what do you think is different this year? Training time/volume/intensity similar?
Heh.

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
I think the book they read is "hold a meeting, have lunch, hold another meeting, hold some more meetings, hold one more meeting. Ask someone who is an expert some things. Ask them the same things in the next meeting. Have another meeting with a different group of project managers. Ask the same questions. Have more free lunches. Hold more meetings".

Pretty much everything. Went from doing 16-20hrs/week at lower intensities, mostly outside to doing ~10hrs, higher intensity, all inside. That being said, 2013 started off pretty ****ty as well (got dropped in just about every collegiate A RR), so there's plenty of time to turn this season around.

Man, the project managers here clearly didn't read your book.

Raining down here as well, riding in 3 hours. Hopefully it clears up because I had a big day planned which is now even bigger since I ate 3 cookies.
In laymans terms, I have to ride another 600 KJ's tonight because Subway insisted I get cookies, then insisted 3 were better than 2.

The pm's I work with are pretty good about keeping the number of meetings in check, although that may be because they work with a couple of crusty old engineers who just get up and leave when they decide a meeting has gotten pointless. Apparently after thirty odd years you're you finally lose the training from elementary school.

I'm still a young engineer, although it does say senior on my title, it sounds more impressive than it is. It's really equivalent to what used to be engineer 3. How long do I have to wait to start skipping and or leaving pointless meetings so that I can actually do the work that the meetings are asking me about doing? I swear I spend more time talking about and planning than actually doing or problem solving. The meeting talking is explaining things that the 3 engineers in the room already know to the 8 project managers who don't understand and never will.
Sorry, it's a bit of a touchy subject at the moment. We inherited the PM mindset from another company, and it's awful. So, much, overhead.

Sounds like you've waited long enough. Get up and walk out, be prepared with a snarky response to any challenge and you'll be set ... or fired.

In a chatty mood tonight, sorry for all the posts.
At a recent race there was a racer of a type I haven't really encountered before. He was 50-ish, reasonably fast/skilled, but didn't seem to be in great shape. In my made-up biography of the guy he was a fast cocky racer in the 80s and has gone slowly downhill ever since.
The guy would consistently, intentionally, leave the door open against the curb, wait for somebody to start to come through, and slam it. I watched two different guys go grass surfing as a result. Late in the race he did the same thing to me, even though I had watched him do it for an hour it still came as a surprise. I've never had this urge before but I really wanted to return the favor. I didn't.
After the race I introduced myself to him and told him next time he slammed the door he would at least have a name to go with the face. He blathered something about protecting his front wheel. Now that I know his name, next time I can at least try to mess with his head.

Nothing riles me up like dirty riding. Well maybe teammates that don't ride like teammates, but don't get me started on that. I don't ride dirty against others first but man, if someone starts messing around, I can be the absolute dirtiest rider around.

Lucky Charms are delicious, and Lucky Charms marshmallows are even deliciouser, and I wish that there was one with only marshmallows. Turns out, you can buy the Lucky Charms marshmallows on Amazon, it just doesn't say exactly Lucky Charms, but if definitely is. There's no way I should buy those, but damn, it's tempting.

Wait, I can say hell, but I can't say the three letter word for the group of things that ***** and ****** are part of? I was reading through a bunch of my old track racing reports, and noticed that everywhere there used to be that word, it was censored. Most of my race reports would say "from the ***", or "at the ***", etc. Ridiculous. That's some really crazy censoring.
