Just realized I raced collegiate with the dude who won the p12 tt at ksr. The fact that he beat Ben Wolfe while on a road bike makes me feel a little better about getting shelled by him every weekend my last year of collegiate.

Glencoe Grand Prix 30+ 4-5 - 8th
Horrible weather in Chicago, rain/wind/cold. Really wet course. Mostly was using the ride for training so didn't take any risks at the end. 8 laps to go, I'm on the inside and dive down to the apex, other people trying to cram on my outside and touch my bike. Guy goes down hard with a few others, but most make it back in with free lap.
Race pace was not very fast, 24.5 mph with a lot of braking and taking it easy in the corners with the conditions. I took a full lap pull with 4 to go without even trying to be on the front. Then the pace picked up a bit and I drifted toward the back to recover a little. Should have moved up a lot further before the bell lap. Moved up to about 10th on the backstretch and then sprinted to 8th for a placing and $30. Definitely think I had the fitness for a lot better finish, but I wasn't in the mood to battle for position in the conditions with my A race next weekend.
I kept having to brake on the straightways without trying because I didn't want to test the corners going 4 wide jumping out of the pack. Guess I should have just gone closer to the front.

Raced, if I can even call it that. Flat, wide, windy crit, E2/3
.Hung out near the back hurting with every minor surge, missed the break even though I was hoping for a break, lost the field sprint before it started.
That's what happens after a week of no intensity, almost no riding, vacation, and a sore hip from a crash.
Watched Fudgy do well in masters, then skipped E3

That makes it even more impressive. I had no idea.

Did a wacky race today. M40 Masters Games or something. 4 man break, teammate (Cat 1 I think) was in the break, sat near the front and covered moves. One guy was doing wacky things, really pushing people, including the only woman in the race. His shoves made him lose control and he'd swerve 2-3 feet into the field. I yelled at him, really loudly, 3x, and he wasn't at all apologetic or anything. I rarely yell at riders directly but this guy was absolutely out of line. All the other riders let me deal with him so that was interesting.
He also rode up the curb in a heavy crosswind section, waiting until maybe 3-4 meters before the parking area ended then swerved hard into the field. The field was reading this as a possibility and started moving away, else he'd have crashed into the end of the parking area. He wanted to chase the break and was getting frustrated when people wouldn't work with him.
He got DQed for the much more tame reason that he attacked the field over the yellow line, on the main straight, basically just before the official's stand.
He claimed to be working for one of the break guys, a friend of mine, so I let him know that either a bozo was claiming to work for you (but then launching a big move to chase you down) or, if he really was working for you, you should know that he was the focal point for virtually the whole race because of his aggressive and dangerous riding.
Craziest thing is that we're friends on FB. Like, what the heck. I accepted his request because a good friend of mine was teammates with him.
I was not really into the sprint, got 4th in the field, that guy was 2nd in the field, but DQed, so I got 3rd in the field. 4 man break, my teammate got second, I knew all the guys in the break so I was good with them winning. Barely broke 900w in the jump, did under 650w for the sprint. That's about 300w low on both numbers, so I was really not into the sprint at all.
Went out for ice cream after with Junior and the Missus. Also the guy that bought the Maserati offered me a job, if the car thing doesn't work out.

My 2nd race was really really hard, but finally one of the nat champs gave me a chance and we stuck a 2-man break. I was solo for the first 3 primes, then in a small group for me 4th, then Craig and I traded them until the end of the race. I'm unclear how he got 9, but seemed way petty to try and argue. I think reality was like 12-8 for me, given my head start. The $10/lap primes paid for both days of my racing this weekend, at least.
I'm bummed I had absolutely nothing left for the finish. That's what I get for being in a break in the p12 and then again for the entirety of the m35 race. No sugar left and I didn't pack any food for the 50-min race.

Ken Harrod RR, Cat 3. Entered this race with a TSB of -28. Result: "LOL."
Eh, excuses aside, it was a fun thing to do for my 30th birthday. The hills did indeed turn out to be not very steep. Not necessarily a big ring affair, as some predicted, but then I was running a 39x23. Which was perfectly adequate. Things started off slow, picked up a bit on the second lap when the (winning, sigh) break went away, were relatively steady on the third lap and totally bananas on the fourth. After that, I felt like my legs were pretty toasted. I had planned on hoarding some watts on the fourth lap after watching the front pretty closely for the first three, but those plans were basically for nought when both my teammates went on the attack and I decided that I needed to mark their chasers. On the final lap my legs were feeling pretty shot, but I figured I would see how bad they really were and try to up the pace when we started the stair-step climbing rollers on the return half of the lap. I succeeded mostly in dropping myself and no one else. Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I dug deep, passed a few other stragglers and came in a couple of minutes behind the field. Not a great result and I'm definitely not at top form yet! But it was a really nice course and I had a good time. A+ will do again. Hopefully with a lighter bike next time.
If anyone is curious: IF .92 for 2:12, which seems reasonable enough to me? No off-the-charts numbers, it was definitely not as good as I've previously done in training. A good sign that I'm tired, I think. Duh! With any luck there's a training crit for me to do tomorrow, then I get a rest week.

Also official made everyone (meaning me) remove all cameras. Some ban on "Go-Pros". So no proof of any of the wackiness that ensued.
The wacky guy was a pro in Argentina, so he has a motor.

We'll see. I haven't formally tested in a while, should do one. Maybe late in the week. I will be at Purgatory. Excited about it, since I should be fresher and faster. Might even have some light wheels if I can get my act together. I'll see you there!

circuit race cat 3. 3 mile loop 9 times for 27 miles, with some sketchy turns and gnarly climbs. training volume went in the toilet ever since I've come to visit my mom. total of 2 hours in the last week. cornering confidence wasn't there, wasn't prepared mentally, raced with baggy jersey, along with other crappy training gear, legs started cramping with 3 to go. got gapped and then dropped on the last lap. tomorrow's a flatter crit. I'll probably do better there.

E4 dash for cash, 18th out of 40ish?
Someone shoulder-slammed me from behind on the 3rd or 4th lap and knocked my front wheel into someone's skewer, ripping two spokes out and bustin some carbon. I managed to stay up and went back to find a wheel. Our team wheels were all rears, but someone was nice enough to lend me their front. Unfortunately I didn't catch their name and even forgot to thank them after, but if it's someone on here, huge thanks!
Won a $10 prime by sitting someone's wheel off the front and sprinting around. Sat back in the pack for the sprint, though in retrospect I could have used the gap to my advantage and just gone for it off the front as it was 5 to go and there was another guy that looked like he wanted to work. I had a good position setting up, but coming out of the last corner a rider in front of me scraped his wheel/pedal on the center divide and scared the crap outa me and some others, so I got on the brakes for a second and lost momentum. My teammate ended up winning by attacking up the inside of the corner just before the final turn while the field was busy fighting for position on the outside.
Congrats on 2nd ygduf, it looked tough up there in the 35+ but you guys had a huge gap.

ICCC Dash for Cash. First races after my first week of hard training post illness. Expectations weren't high.
35+123 Pack finish. (edit, 14th based on fudgy's pic)
Talked to @Ygduf a bit at the start and he said his legs were tired from his first race. He then proceeded to gap the field and start raking in primes. The field responded after a lap or so and it took some 20+ minutes of attacks and counters before the teams were content with those in the break and the primary chase. After that, the pace plummeted and we had a nice little group ride for 20 more minutes. Rolled in mid pack with a bit of a sprint.
35+ 3/4 6th of 25 or so.
Even though I felt like crap, I wanted to win this one. @save10 bolted early and took 3-4 primes solo off the front. Looked good and strong. After about 4 laps a few guys got away and I bridged across. Rotated through and saw we were gaining on save10 not wanting to ruin the break I looked back with the intent to suggest we not chase primes, but work as a group. Sadly, all were gone ... wtf. Caught up with save10 and waited for the group to catch us. After that it was a slow affair with a lot of hesitant efforts until 2 guys that were the most represented in the field got away. Happened after a long pull and I didn't respond in time to cover or bridge and the field did nothing. They were gone. Save10 took a lot of digs on the front and was getting some acknowledgement for the effort from the MC. I took a few long digs to try to pull the two back, but nothing got organized. So, we sat and waited ... with 3 to go 2 more jumped away and we let them roll. With 4 away, the new goal was field sprint for 5th. Came out of the last corner second, tried to get someone else to jump so I could get a free ride for a bit since the sprint was about 300 from the corner. No one came, so I went and got pipped at the line.
Bummed with the results, but whatevs. That's racing. Big kudos to fudgy and save10 for working hard in their races.

Powertap was still working at the time, and I rode enough to know I didn't have ftp set too high. Its much easier to get high NP than high AP. Pull above threshold every couple minutes and NP goes up but RPE and AP stay lower. Depending on wheather Im fresh, I should add (considering Bariani...)

Thanks. Like I said, I think a more definitive answer will probably require a re-test. The nature of the course meant a lot of alternating between well below and well above FTP, so NP might read a little high.

Dave Jordan Classic C3 this morning. $150 prime each lap for 7 laps, made for a fast race. I got caught behind a crash just before the bell lap, linked up with 2 guys and bridged back to the field. I followed JJ the second half of the last lap and moved up pretty quick (side note: he's a pro at moving up through the field quickly and safely) and felt good going to the finish. Apparently there a crash in an earlier field and the volunteers decided to put cones course 1km from the finish. Several guys, myself included, had to swerve to not hit the cones and the dude on the ground. Lost all position and decided to sit up. I watched JJ finish 3rd as two guys were able to come over the top for 1-2.
