Shed The Monster TV Commercial

People For Bikes ran a pretty good commercial during the Tour this morning:

Shed The Monster | PeopleForBikes

I think having the guy wear a helmet will diminish the positive impact but otherwise a good commercial.

Nice Hollywood ending, and it did make me laugh, especially when thinking about the guy turning back into a monster when he walks out of the store, and finds his bike was stolen since he did not bring a lock with him.

Hah, great idea. Maybe they'll do that for part 2 and pay you some royalties. Part of their funding does come from bike lock companies after all.

Cute. I sometimes feel that way.

I thought it was funny that they fuzzed out "California" on the car's license plate.

I watched people waving flags in cyclists' faces and realized the Tour isn't what it used to be, and it looked like a dirt road course to boot. I don't have cable anyway so I couldn't sit in the coffee shop all day either.

That was sad.

I hate to be critical but IMO it's a lame effort and likely to be appreciated only by people who already ride bicycles. So bicycling is fun and relaxing, who doesn't already know that? I don't expect that it will motivate anyone not already riding to do so.

FWIW- none of the frustrations were related to the issue, which was getting from point A to B. Instead of frustrations about hoses, junk, no milk, or cell phones, the ad might have focused on CAR related issues, such as traffic delays, needing to buy gas or available parking.

If this is how we're selling bicycling, people will continue driving unless the wife takes the car first.

They should do a hyperlapse of an oil company executive walking out of his office building to get into his limo, and as he walks traffic speeds by (at hyperlapse speed) but the number of cars in traffic continuously decreases and the number of bicycles increase and his clothes slowly become more ragged, and his limo should slowly shrink and morph into a rusty old beater until finally he arrives at his refrigerator box wearing a bunch of rags.

Then it should be like "Yeah, you have the power."

People don't ride because they have a thing against cars or traffic or oil executives. They ride because it's fun.

This is not a universal truth. People ride for a plethora of reasons.
