Exactly my point. Esp. if you're wearing a hi-viz top and doing as ngate stated above, you are an easy target. Hmmm if you were a cop, would you rather "do your job" by stopping a bike and maybe saving a life...or go after a guy with a gun? No brainer!

I'm not perfect either. Was stopped once in 3yrs, for going through a yellow that turned red. The cop was polite, saw that the bike was street legal AND gave me a warning. Now even though it's a pain, when the light is yellow as I arrive at the crosswalk line, I stop.

That means be careful to follow the laws. After awhile, it's really very automatic and courteous to other vehicles.

bluejack .. if you didn't run the light, don't pay the fine and take it to to court and plead your case. If he was far enough behind as to not have a good perspective, I believe you won't have to pay the fine, plus, odds are that the cop won't show, in which case, it will be droped. Either way, you should win.

Write the Seattle Times and P.I. papers. I would also call KIRO and KOMO. You must fight this ticket! The cop will lie and say you went through a red light but ask him which one? Because on Jackson street, if you hit one red light, you'll hit everyone of them. If you miss one, you'll miss them all. I grew-up in Seattle and Jackson street has always had times lights even in the late 50's and 60's.

I would fight it as long as I knew for sure that before I crossed the bar at each intersection the light was green.. Just hope he doesn't have an in car camera if you did hit one b4 it turned, because then your screwed.

Nah I wouldn't make that big of a deal of it, putting it in the paper would just give people a good laugh.

Why is it whimping out if hes not gonna fight it? Some people don't have time to sit around writing papers, its easier to just pay it.

Choosing your battles is not the same thing as wimping out. Depending on the facts of the situation (which are unclear from the sequence of Bluejack's posts in this thread), it may well be a battle he can't win. In which case, pay the fine and avoid the court costs.

I think it's funny how a some people like to point a finger because the are obviously perfect cyclists exhibiting the very safest of riding habits and always within the law. o_o My suggestion is to get laid now and then; it really helps.

Oh, and here in Texas if you are not over the white line when it turns green, you have not run the light. It doesn't sound like he ran the light.

Just wondering if you saw the JUDGE yet, and if so, what happened? I scanned through all the messages and I didn't find anything concerning the results.

Cheers,

Ray
