Cyclist injured by Papa Johns driver
A cyclist leaving the small town I live in, was hit by a Papa Johns driver yesterday afternoon.

While the cyclist was not injured to the point of having to be taken to the hospital. Where it happened, is not surprising. Because of the traffic coming over the bridge, or the hump in the road.

Petty? maybe . . . but I think those Jimmy John ads that say how fast their delivery is are sort of irresponsible too. I live in an urban setting with very narrow streets and delivery drivers drive like imbeciles around here. JJ philosophy encourages their drivers to drive dangerously.

I thought I was the only one. Nice to see Im not.
To further muddy the waters around here, I became aware that undercover police in Louisville are using Papa John roof tents on beater cars. I saw one caroming wildly through our neighborhood and I think "Thats it, phone call time" only to find out two seconds later it was a cop responding to a 911 call in the undercover unit

Some national pizza place, Domino's maybe?, stopped the 30 minutes guarantee because their drivers were causing a ton of accidents.

At least the JJ down the hill from me uses bikes for delivery. Several of the local Whole Foods have as well,but the one rider for the location down the hill is an idiot who weaves around people at speed on the sidewalk. I've complained,and haven't seen him lately,so hopefully they got rid of him.

In my book, all pizza/sub delivery drivers', rank a close second to U.S. Postal Service drivers'. Because I had another close call with one of the USPS trucks on a six-lane divided road. Pizza/sub delivery drivers, drive like the USPS marketing campaign about Next-Day Air. As for the pizza being delivered when the cyclist was hit. Who cares about whether the pizza survived.

Well he continuously provides examples of poor cycling road craft, and how it doesn't work, which is an education for those who come to A&S for guidance.

So, ya'll are tellin' me that predominately young male delivery drivers who make a low hourly rate and survive off of their tips (which are directly related to the speed and quantity of deliveries) often drive recklessly? Tell me it ain't so!

Sure, just like a cyclist who boasts about always taking the lane seems to have numerous "close-calls" and negative interactions with motorists of all stripes.

I'm thinking, stop me if I'm wrong, but after the 3rd instance of italicized "aways takes the lane", that you have a problem with that philosophy. As far as I'm concerned, you should take the lane if only to educate the caged folks of proper road etiquette. That said, I hug the white line lol. I stick to my lane on dirt though. Gravel's a pretty unforgiving surface at 15 mph.
