Double pedal power

Is it possibal to create a double peddal powered bike on a fixie. What i mean is a flipflop wheel and then 2 exact chain rings on both sides of the crank give me ur thoughts.

Why? You do know the right and left sides are connected in the bottom bracket, right?

I don't think it would work but what are you trying to accomplish?

The issue is the machining for the freewheel/fixed gear hub. I guess you could use a tandem crossover crankset and get a hub that was machined fixed/fixed and put a fixed gear cog and lock ring on each side but the left side would be threaded backwards so you'd be relying on the lock ring to hold it in place.

All that would achieve is halving the load on each chain. Power in = power out (less losses to friction), no matter how you get from in to out.

Most left side axles aren't long enough for a crankarm.
Someone has probably done it as a novelty, with some creative kludging.

But it would have the benefit of extra weight

Yes, someone posted about on another singlespeed forum. It may have been a freewheel set up, but it was a double ring, one on each side. They used a tandem crank if i remember correctly. It was done because... reasons

Probably just for the fun of it.

I've seen track sprint bikes with a double drive setup, but the left chain simply looped over.
Extra strength right at start, then the chain would disengage to save weight.

Additional expense with additional maintenance for minimal (if any) gain. What's not to like?

They didn't need to develop any new standards to go with it?
