Campagnolo 165 Strada 2 Crank - Questions about BB and chain guard

Hey guys,

Building my first single speed and got ahold of a 165 Strada 2 crank for next to nothing, so I figured I'd try to incorporate this into the build (its 144BCD with 42/52T).

However, I have a few questions:
1) I want to replace the outer 52T ring with a chain guard, mostly for aesthetic reasons, but also because I won't be using the 52T ring and need something to space it out if I remove it. One thing I've seen people do is grind off the teeth on an old chainring. This is kind of appealing, because the only 144BCD chainring I can find for sale is black, and I'd prefer to keep the same polished metal look on the crank. Just curious on peoples thoughts, as to whether this is a good or bad idea.

2) I have no idea how to match a bottom bracket to a crank. What parameters are involved in bottom bracket installation? I imagine the length (ie. how far it protrudes from the frame) and the width of the 4 tapered brackets are important, but I'm not sure what would make it compatible or not with any given crank. Are there any resources I could use to find what is compatible with a 165 Strada 2?

Thanks in advance!

Campagnolo Made a Disc Chainguard... for 52T its the Part number 753/2, 222 size the other 3 are 210, 198 , 186

I bought mine, New, in the early 80's for my custom crankset build using the 52tin the middle and a 36t for the inner chainring.

the middle of a triple sits on the center of the chainline.

Campagnolo made them for single ring Cyclocross racing setups ..

Good luck finding them on the Audtion site. .. you may be able to get a Worn 46~48t chainring and file off the teeth

Sugino and other aftermarket makers made 144 BCD chainrings , there are still those sizes Made But they are 1/8" teeth for Track racing.
