Replacement rear mech hanger longer?
I had my replacement rear mech hanger arrive in the mail today, I measured it along side the old one, and it does seem to be about 10mm longer/lower that the old one, does this matter at all? will it still function aswell as the stock one?

10 mm sounds like a lot of difference to me.
What made you buy it in the first place? Can you ride the bike with the stock one? If your answer is "No." I'd bolt up the new longer replacement and see how it works for myself. I'm thinking a longer derailleur hanger might allow a stock derailleur to handle a 36t rear cog. Even if it doesn't work it won't be a total loss because you will have learned something new about bike mechanics.

Assuming it fits... It may work, and there could be pros and cons to its longer length.
Pro: The derailleur's pulleys will be about a cm further away from the axle's centerline, so it should be able to handle slightly larger cogs should you choose to use them.
Con: Since the derailleur's pulleys will be a bit further away from the cogs, shifting may not be as crisp as with the shorter hanger.

I know at least one manufacturer (Spec.) offers multiple hanger lengths for some models, specifically for the reason the above posters speculate (bigger sprockets in back).
Other than that, I can't say anything. If the shoe fits, wear it.
