It doesn't have to be that thick even. Carpet strip aluminum works well.

While I'm all for DIY, a set of polycarbonate fenders off of eBay can be had for about $25. I had to do a whole bunch of modifications to get a set onto a cross frame, but it was made easier by having the actual fender part off-the-shelf.

I "like" how his rear flasher is positioned to worn low flying airplanes. Andy.

He's saying that it won't stop the splash very well. Probably because the fender is flat, not curved down around the tire, and no "gutter" for the water to drain down on the edges.

I am certain that he's wrong however, since I've used the fenders shown through two rainy seasons, and some just like it on my road bike for, I dunno, one or two years prior to that. The spray from the tires is stopped by just the flat portion, and relatively little is thrown out at an angle from the tires.

In the OP photo, yeh I think he has a point because the fender is so far off the tire.

but functional , water slings off the outer edge of the Tire .

Make a roller forming set and roll the strip into a curved Section as it rolls into a semi Circle.. .

You see all the Motorcycle Builder Reality shows .. they Make their own stuff.

I can hear those fenders rattling from here.
A magnificently mediocre execution!
5 out of 5 "mehs".

He said the bolts are stainless. No idea why he used a lock washer behind the nylon locking nut, though.
