pinarello's DSS1.0 dampener adjustment

Hi all,

Does anyone have experience working with the dampener on the rear end of Pinarello's Gan GR-S? It seems strange to me that neither the manual nor their site has any information on it. The only video I can find is on its assembly, but even that is quite basic.

This is probably a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. Is it stiffer when the lock rings are closer to the frame, or when they've been screwed down towards the base of the unit?

Thanks in advance for the help, I've been loaned one for a while and I'd like to experiment with it.
