cable pull ratios are different... that's how SRAM got around shimano's patents .
i DID manage to temporarily use a SRAM x4 rear der. with a shimano deore click shifter once... it was a bit noisy, but got the guy up and running... i swapped the cable to the wrong side of the pinch screw.... which KINDA altered the pull ratio to a near-shimano ratio... after messing with that SRAM der. for about an hour...

No, not at all. SRAM 10 speed pulls way more cable than Shimano--it wouldn't even be close to functional. You need a Shimano road derailleur that is not 11 speed (or 4700 Tiagra) that has appropriate max cog size and chain wrap for your bike.
