Shimano shiftters with SRAM APEX derailleur

Will Shimano Dura Ace ST-7801 2X10 shifters work with a SRAM Apex rear derailleur?

Nope.

cable pull ratios are different... that's how SRAM got around shimano's patents .

i DID manage to temporarily use a SRAM x4 rear der. with a shimano deore click shifter once... it was a bit noisy, but got the guy up and running... i swapped the cable to the wrong side of the pinch screw.... which KINDA altered the pull ratio to a near-shimano ratio... after messing with that SRAM der. for about an hour...

Bikes: Too many. Giant Trance X 29, Surly Midnight Special get the most time.

No, not at all. SRAM 10 speed pulls way more cable than Shimano--it wouldn't even be close to functional. You need a Shimano road derailleur that is not 11 speed (or 4700 Tiagra) that has appropriate max cog size and chain wrap for your bike.
