Just got a Sekine MR 300. Need some advice on a tune up
I just inherited this Sekine MR 300. As you can see from the pics, it has a ton of dust on it (it has been sitting in a garage for over a year collecting dust).
I was wondering if seasoned pros here can give a newbie such as myself advice on how to do a tune up by myself.
Specifically, what type of cleaner should I use on the chain and gear system (Shimano 105) to get the dust off and what oil/grease I should use for its lubrication.
What other things should I be checking and tuning up? Please elaborate as much as possible as I don't know anything about bikes, other than the fact that this bike is a good one.

One other question, is there a way to figure out when this bike was made? I am just trying to figure out roughly how old this particular model is. What range of years it was made etc?
Any online resource (other than this great forum ofcourse), that lists the specs for this bike?

i would suggest that you just go to cdn tire & buy some bike biodegreaser + lube for the components, but you have to "strip" the frame of the parts & clean them all by hand off of the frame. the chain you might just replace. i'm in clarkson so i'm close by if you need to email me...

I own a bike with the same components. The components are ca. 1987 vintage, and the rest of the bike also appeasrs to be of a similar vintage.
That is a real good find. A new bike with the same components would run you at least $800+ these days.
You might need to replace the tubes/tires if they do not hold air, and the tires are all dry and cracked.

after looking at your pics that mr 300 looks more 80's components and styling than an earlier model. plus yours has the downtube shifters, plus it has the routed brake cabling replacing the old style housing.
