Good Frame Repaint and Restore Shop
Greetings - I am new to this forum so it nice to meet all of you. I have been actively cycling now for abot 4 years and I am.
My brother recently deposited a 1984-85 Trek 400 in my lap. He was cleaning his garage out and said "Here you might like this" The components were worn and the tires needed replacing, but I cleaned it up, put a Terry Fly saddle on it and lo and hehold - It is more comfortable than my 3 year old LeMond. So.. I have started down the path of rebuilding it... Little by little.
The frame is pretty scratched up, decals are a mess and the color is a hideous Blue from the eighties ( I know I may offend some "Trekophiles" with that but to each his own as they say. I really like this frame and want to have it refinished. I can't afford the Joe Black treatment, but would like something that will last a while and look good with new components. Any recommendations from the forum would be appreciated. I live in AZ and the bike is currently with me in Iowa ( it is my training bike while I am on assignment here) Any thoughts?

There a painter sticky in C&V, and if you want to tackle it yourself search for posts by DR Deltron, resident pro painter. If you just want a durable (limited choice) single color, then powdercoating is the way to go, generally about $100 (+shipping, if no one close by).

My next bike will be powdercoated. I paid about $250 for paint, clearcoat and decals on my last project. The results were great. That is probably more than the Trek is worth though. If you had a Chicago built Paramount then a $250 paint job would be cheap.
IMO, go with the powdercoating. Remember, the frame has to be stripped of it's old finish before refinishing. Powder doesn't stick to old paint. Good luck
