Buying crank vs Chain rings
Ok I have a Ritchey crankset (are those decent? are they same level as shimano... i know it ranges a lot) and to replace all the rings its 30$+20$+15$ = 65$ but a new crank is like 75$ !
Does that make sense thats its almost-the-same-price to just buy a new set?

No. I'd buy a complete new crank or that difference, particularly if the new crank s the same or better quality.

It depends on which Ritchey crankset you're referring to. The older Logic cranks https://www.bikepro.com/products/cranks/ritchey.html sell for a good price used as they are cold forged and very good. I know nothing of recent Ritchey stuff.

If you are true to your conservsationist values, you should look for decent parts at your co-op. That would be your first approach given what you have said here in the past. Second, if there is nthing wrong with your current crank set, why replace it? Just buy decent quality rings to get yourself into a good place again. It should not be a surprise at all that three rings purchased as individual parts are almost as expensive as a complete set. After all, the economies of scale of mass marketing products work that way. Have you ever priced out purchasing all of the components to build a complete bike and compared that to a similar level bike purchased complete with a warranty? You can't even come close.

"Especially a no-name piece of crap like ritchey."
Maybe the person who posted the above was joking. Ritchey isn't No Name or a piece of junk. Usually No Name are funny names like you find on Walmart bikes. You know, names that are odd, or maybe names that sound a bit like a name brand, but aren't.
I think that was meant as a joke. Nothing wrong with your crankset-maybe find some low use rings on Ebay?

Why are you replacing the rings? Are they worn out? If so, do you really need to replace all of them? It's unusual for all 3 to wear out at the same time, so maybe you only need to replace 1 or 2.
If you're just looking for different size rings, then maybe you should try to arrange a trade (for rings or a complete crank) through your local CL or bike club/co-op.
Hope this helps,

The problem with replacing the crank is that you might also have to replace the BB.
I second the query about replacing all three rings. Why?

f you are true to your conservsationist values
The thing about this is that I dont need it. So I can give it to my coop and have someone else fix it when good rings come in.
I have a no-name crank now and I thought I could upgrade, but screw it
I did look at the coop for good rings but there were none
I have to replace the two big rings which are the expensive ones. The crank is new to me and the two big rings are useless.
