Replacement cone for holding bearing in hub
Hey guys! I'm hoping you can help us out here. We are touring in Peru and had a local mechanic pack and grease our hubs. In the process, he threw out the little cone that holds the bearings from one of our wheels. It had a very small pit in it so he replaced it with a smaller one - but this one has no seal whatsoever! We are concerned about going over dirt or mud roads as the dirt will get in with no barrier whatsoever.
Anyway, we now want to buy a new cone and rebuild the wheel again - but have no idea about the size or where to buy that part. The bike is a 2009 Novara Safari. Any idea how we can find out exactly what that part is? We have no wiggle room for mistakes here as I will be flying to NYC to pick up some stuff on April 10. If we get the wrong one, we could be stuck here a month or more waiting for one to be shipped down.
Thanks for your help!
Nancy

According to REI's website on the 2009 model you state you have it looks like you have a Shimano FH-M475 hub on it.
Here is a link to the Shimano Tech Document on that hub:
https://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830608924.pdf
The Left Hand Cones and seal look to be part number Y-220-98080
and the Right Cones and seals look to be part number Y-30G-90500
A couple of online retailers should be able to get it (I found Bikemans and beyondbikes)
But verify that that is the hub that you have. And you might want to carry spares with you on tour.
Good Luck.
