Truvativ Chainrings

I have a Truvativ Elita Crankset and want to change out the 52 inch for a 48. What brands would work? Which 5 bolt models are generally interchangeable?

Bikes: 2006 Windsor Dover w/105, 2007 GT Avalanche w/XT, 1995 Trek 820 setup for touring, 201? Yeah single-speed folder, 199? Huffy tandem.

You must match the number of bolts and the bolt circle diameter (BCD), which is 5 bolts x 130mm for your crank. (To make sure it really is 130mm BCD, measure center-to-center between two adjacent bolts, it should be 76.4mm. If it is not, see here: https://sheldonbrown.com/gloss_bo-z.html#bcd)

Any 48T chainring that is meant for a multi-speed setup will work (so, not "single-speed" or "track" or "1x9," etc. ). It's best to get one that's meant for the outer position so it has ramps and/or pins that help move the chain up onto the chainring when upshifting.

Some folks will say you should match the chain and the crank/chainrings in regard to the number of speeds (e.g. 9-speed), but I'm not one of them.

I've had bad experiences switching the chainrings on a Truvativ Rouleur road triple crankset out for chainrings from TA Speciailites - with the new chainrings, the 10-speed chain could easily slip between the middle and large rings (both the crank and rings were rated for 10-speed). I don't know if this was due to changing the middle or the large ring because I changed both. I ended up having to file down the outer parts of the tabs where the chainrings mount, but had to be careful to do this evenly so that the chainring still span true.
