I took my 'cross bike off the wall for a ride that required better climbing gearing.

About halfway in, I started creaking. I am pretty sure it was the BB. However, it could very well be the pedals (Crank Bros Candy SL), they showed a little rust on the egg beaters after sitting around unloved after 'cross season.

I commuted on the bike for a couple weeks. A month later, still creaked. Twice per revolution. There is no carbon on my bike besides the fork, so a creak could travel through the frame/cranks rather easily.

Now, the creak has gone away. Is this a good or a bad thing?

Does this confirm it was the pedals and I wore the rust off?

I finally got the tools to pull the ISIS BB and look at it, but now I don't see the point. It spins fine with no grabs or grinding.

Any insight is appreciated.

The creak will probably come back, no harm and pulling the BB apart for a thorough cleaning and regreasing
