Specialized Tricross

Hi, I would like to upgrade the wheels on my tricross. I have a pair of XTR hubs to build into a decent pair of touring wheels the trouble is, the hubs are 135mm as opposed to the tricross's 130mm. I know with a steel frame that it is possible to reset the dropouts to 135mm but i'm not sure that it is possible with an Alloy frame. Does anyone have any experience of what I would like to achive.

Solution is to use a 130mm hub.

thinner[-5mm] spacer on left side will get you a 130 wide axle, need to redish the wheel a touch
as you shifted the centerline of the hub over.

Not only is the frame alloy, but depending on the model it may have carbon seatstays. I therefore wouldn't try to respace it or squeeze the 135mm hub in without respacing.

I have a Tricross and got a set of NOS XTR hubs 6 months ago. I took a spacer from an old Deore LX hub and used that plus its rubber dust cover for the left side instead of using the wider ones that were on the XTR. OLD was then almost exactly 130mm. I moved the axle along to make an equal amount stick out of both sides, and the frame dropouts were wide enough that I didn't need to trim the axle down at all. I built the wheel after that (using some Mavic A719 rims), so I didn't need to do anything more than usual to get the dishing right.

How fortunate to come across someone with exactly the same dilema. I intend building the wheels myself so thats exactly the sort of advice I needed. Thanks Chris.
