Help removing Falcon 'Earnie Clements' head badge... **********??

How do I get this beautiful looking badge off???

I am stripping paint on my frame and I do not want to ruin this badge..

I just had a go with small screw driver and nearly ripped the thing up??

What is the usual method???

use drill to remove the rivet..
match the size of the bit, commonly i'm using 2-3mm bit
or you can mask the badge using masking tape....

I did this on my '72 Raleigh International the other day in removing the Raleigh headbadge for a repaint. I used a drill bit that's just a hair larger than the hole in the rivet, drilled all the way through, and removed the headbadge. I was able to save the rivet heads that popped off when I drilled them. Someone on the C and V forum posted a pic of an old Raleigh headbadge they had drilled out, and had used what I think is a clever way to re-attach the headbadge after the repaint. They used the adhesive that's sold at auto parts stores for attaching body trim to cars to glue the little rivet heads to the headbadge (to make it look like the headbadge is still held on by rivets) and then glued the headbadge on with the adhesive. A neat little trick, I thought-

If it is a rivet you can knock off the other end, inside, once you have the fork out.
then the above technique would work , too.

This is the way I'd do it.

Re-attaching is a breeze to, I believe rivet guns are cheap and you can get a couple rivets at a hardware store or bodyshop supply, or just take the bike to a bodyshop and ask nicely and they may just rivet it back on for free or cheap.

yup, the hole for the rivet is bigger than the rivet it self...
i think its the same size with PC case 2-3mm would work..
use the small 2mm first if you are not sure..
after the rivet cap that hold your badge is removed, the rest of the rivet will fell appart automatically...
