Reposting this from the Road Cycling forum as it wasn't getting much there.

Hey guys, I have question about transferring parts from one frame to another. My gf picked up a used '08 Specialized Ruby Pro frame and we're moving her components over from her old Specialized Allez Comp frame. This is a learning process for both of us as this is our first bike build so we're open to all new info.

I'm looking at the bottom brackets of the two and I realized that a simple transfer isn't going to be enough, the old frame has a sealed BB and the new frame looks like the picture below. This is a press-fit bottom bracket shell right?



Is there any way to get this working with the old sealed bearing BB? I'm assuming no

If that's the case, she's going to need a new crank which brings me to my next question. Right now she's on Ultegra 6500 9-speed but in the next few months wants to upgrade to a 6700/7900 grouppe.

Can she upgrade her crank to the 6750 crankset right now and do the rest of the upgrades later? I mean a compact crank is a compact crank, it should be able to work with 9 or 10 speed cassettes right?

Finally, where the hell do I get the Hollowtech II press fit bottom bracket?

It seems the only press fit one they make is for Dura Ace (Ultegra doesnt have one), but I Can't find one anywhere.

I've heard varying things about the FSA BB's, both good and bad. They seem to have one that works with Hollowtech II.

The simple solution is to get an adapter. The bottom bracket is "Specialized, oversized integrated" which I believe is their name for BB30. In which case one of these will work: https://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...s.php?id=29424

According to Specialized's bike archive, that's a "Specialized, oversized integrated" bottom bracket. I *think* they're based on BB30, so you'd use BB30 adapter thingies like these, to get your Hollowtech II crankset installed: https://www.pricepoint.com/detail/206...p=030%20WHEB30

That's awesome guys. Quick question though, her old frame is a nice 68mm, however her new frame, the '08 Specialized Ruby Pro is only about 64mm. I'm pretty sure the standards are 68mm and 73mm. Can we still use the 68mm adapter on the frame given the 4mm deficit? Should I put spacers on that or just having 2mm on each side should be fine.

Do these adapters have any problems with sliding left and right after being pressed into the BB30's?

Anyone on this? I find it weird that there is a 64mm BB, is this just specialized being a big ******?
