Do I need a housing stop on chainstay for derailleur or can I use one solid piece

I bought a converted Raleigh Twenty (converted from old 3 speed hub/cottered cranks to modern derailleur, cassette and cranks)

Anyways it is a total frankenbike. The person who did the rear derailleur cable had it run to the seat stays, then the cable housing is cut and there is a rusty clamp there (not a real housing stop clamp just a bracket). After the bracket, the housing starts again and goes to derailleur.

My question is can I just run cable housing right from the shifter to the derailleur, or do I need to install some sort of housing stop off the chainstay? (There are no braze ons obviously because this was a IGH bike originally).

If I do need a housing stop where can I buy a chainstay clamp on version, or what are they called?

Thanks!

you can run housing from the shiftier to the derailer, if you want to , just use plastic ties to hold the housing to the frame is all .

You could do what my '56 Raleigh Trent Sports came with, which is use a Sturmey-Archer "fulcrum", basically a clamp on cable stop. My bike was built with a derailleur, back in the days when most Raleighs used IGH or singlespeed. The fulcrum is the other way round than it would be on a bike with an SA hub, so the cable housing starts there rather than finishing there like it would for the SA hub. It looked a bit ugly, but it worked.

I'd run the housing the whole way. The clamp on stops always seem to slip a little, which throws off the shifting. I'd also get good quality housings, because with the longer run, any flex/give in them will be amplified.

Thanks all, I'll just run the housing.
