It is basically a bike built for time trialing. It looks very unique and I am not certain that geomentry would be easy to handle on the streets.
The rear dropouts are road style with a hanger so it is not a true Pursuit Track frame. nice peice of art work though I hope someone didn't cut the shifter bosses off of it.
Here is a pic of one how it should be. https://images.search.yahoo.com/image...mb=6PtpRdLIYoa

Why was this posted in Bicycle Mechanics when it belongs over in Classic and Vintage?

mid 80's TT machine, aka funny bike in the US.
3500? too much money for it, sure the chroming was busted and that's why was fully repainted. Never seen one of those w/o chroming. The fork doesnt look like the original either.
As it is the bike doesnt worth that much, maybe 250 bucks as it is IMO. You can't ride it in the street because the handling is really bad, so if you suck at handling a regular bike and have at least 3 accidents per year better dont touch this type of bikes.
Collectors doubt will pay what the seller wants also, needs new paint job, new fork, the parts worth nothing just trash, actually the hardest part might be to find the right fork for that bike.
It is pretty stupid to put an old auction because the other bike at least has the original paint over it and looks clean, this one who knows what the hell is going on under the paint job.
I bet is only rust or the chrome was so pitted that they had to re paint the whole frame.
And the finish comment if nobody noticed... THERE ISN'T A SINGLE BOSS IN THAT FRAME. So pretty much some hipster botched all the bosses out in a road frame like that to get himself a cool bike to ride while delivering mail (no offense ok? just making a point). Get the bosses back in the frame wont be cheap, repaint, decals...
bah!
He should be able to find out its real value at pawn stars tv show in las vegas

Really interested? Ask over in the SS/FG forum, or the Track forum.
Ultraman- of course it doesn't have any "bosses." There ain't no racks on track bikes.

Looks like it still has a set of water bottle bosses on the down tube and kinda looks like a cable stop on the underside of the downtube, so possibly set up for barend shifters instead of DT shifters like the blue one.
Still has derailleur hanger so not totally Drewed.
Bummer about lack of front derailleur tab. Could always run it 1x6 (or whatever). Who knows the red one might have been a single chainring bike as built.

Also, I believe he was referring to shifter bosses, which this should have and which some philistine has cut off it.

Looks like it has at least one shifter cable stop, though. A little rare to see both shifter bosses and shift cable stops. This one looks to be intended for barend shifters, not DTs, IMO

I am a little intrigued how he's arrived at the 3-and-a-half grand price tag though...

Francisco Moser was chasing Eddy Merckx's Hour Record, on a velodrome,
Eddy went to Mexico City to benefit from the Olympic Track, and the lower air density.
and FM, also went into having bikes bearing his name, to sell, when he aged past competitive.
so undoubtedly the Hour attempt funny bike was replicated,
in both, track and a road time trial configuration, to suit the paying customer's requirements.

Exactly. An '80s road time trial bike that's been converted to a fixie. That will make quite an impression at the coffee stop.
It would be worth a lot more in its original road configuration.

The red bike is a ROAD frame!!! You can't see it?
Anybody saw the fork??? is a 26" fork with tabs for fenders. Find the right fork for that frame will be a nightmare.

Biking Viking.
Hmmm.
Interesting how's he selling it because "times [are] rough right now. Might consider trading for something of equal value." In rough times, usually people need $, not some vague equally valued object. Shady.

I would like to see the provenance on that bike from Moser to the current owner.
was over.
not really the owner of the individual items of production output ,
so you are speaking about shipping invoices to distributors
and dealers and retail customer's receipts .
the original record bike is probably in a Glass Museum case for it,
in the company HQ.
