Cassette question

Hi Guys

I have a 7 speed cassette on my bike and was just wondering when its time to replace it are they still easy to get? I don't see a lot of them listed on some of the online retailers? I don't want to have to replace it and find out they don't make them anymore

Thanks

Jeremy

I ride the light trails around here 3 days a week for a couple hours each so I don't know how long it would take to wear down the cassette. Im sure Id be able to find them on places like ebay and amazon and Im sure my LBS would track one down for me when the time comes.

7 spd casettes are still available from most all wholesalers and then orderable through your LBS. The mail order/on line distribution system might not be interested in surporting what no longer comes on "cool and current" bikes. But the LBS fixes many older bikes as well as the low cost big box brands. Thats where the insentive is for 7 speed stuff. Andy.

Cheers, I bought my 2012 GT aggressor from them so I will drop by and ask them

Also can I use any chain I want or do I have to get one made for a 7 speed bike? Id like to get something more durable then the stock KMC one.

Are you sure it's a cassette and not a freewheel?

Use a chain made for 8 speeds - easy to find and fairly cheap. It will work fine. The 7 cog cassette is still available from Harris in a variety of combinations:

Good luck

Simple Yahoo search turned up dozens, if not hundreds of sources including Amazon, Ebay REI and several cycling specific sites including the popular Performance and Nashbar sites. Maybe these aren't what you need?

Strange, the specs I see for 2012 GT Aggressor seem to indicate your bike has an 8-spd cassette. Also REI - 2012 GT Aggressor
