So I feel like I have been baited and switched. Does anyone know anything about the GT specific belt drive system from Gates? I've figured out now that it is proprietary to GT, and is based on Gates Powergrip GT2 machinery belt and pulleys, not the bike stuff.

It's a problem because with 120mm spacing, this rear wheel is weak, even with 36 spokes. In trying to replace it with an 8spd Nexus, the stupid Powergrip GT2 pulley won't work with the shifter! I think I'm just going to change this bike over to chain drive and toss all this GT proprietary crap.

The narrower OLD spacing should make the wheel stronger. It has less dish and a slightly shorter spoke length. That is if the wheel has been properly built, tension relieved and trued.
