8 speed downtube shifters

anyone know of a good way to clamp some indexed 8-speed downtube shifters without the mounting braze-ons? I have seen some indexed 7-speed clamp-on shifters, but so far no 8-speed --

There's a store on Ebay (don't recall the name) that sells custom-made stainless steel band mounts with brazed on posts (Shimano compatible) in a large selection of tube sizes. To one of these, of course, you'd mount your preferred DT shifters. I used one on a bike and it was sturdy, stable, and well-made, but pricey (about $50 shipped, if I remember).

Just mount 8-speed shifters on the clamp for the 7-speed shifters. That's what I did. I managed to find an old Shimano band clamp (for indexed shifters!) on ebay for like $4 or something. My 8-speed DT shifters mounted right up and work great.

Depends on how old the bike is. While for a time there were braze on mounts for down tube shifters, some frames had an "ear" they called it so that a shift assy that was band mounted could be used. The ear kept the shift mount from moving. It was just usually just an small piece of metal triangle spot welded to the bottom of the down tube. I would thing that some componet mfg probably has available what you want.

A lot of the older shifters from the 70's and 80's came with a clamp so you could mount them on bikes with or without braze on's you should be able to pic up one of these clamps or cheaper set of shifters with one for about $10 on ebay. Then you can mount most any set of DT shifters you like. Here's an example of what they look like off ebay.

You may also be able to find one at your local bike coop or in the used parts bin of a LBS that has been around awhile.

As far as I can tell the linked part will NOT work with Shimano indexed downtube shifters.

The seller has a separate listing that claims to work, and it looks like it would, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. See that listing here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/DOWNTUBE-SHI...item27ce5f3812

Hey, that's weird... the link you quoted shows an ad where it says 'Does not ship to Australia', and the ad you linked to another part from the same guy (that's entirely identical for shipping purposes mind you) says he will ship it to Australia (for the entirely unreasonable sum of $24.10).

Sh*ts me to tears, all the American eBay vendors who CBFed figuring out international shipping (who you can't filter out of searches), but this seems to indicate eBay could make it a bit easier... if for one, why not for all?
