New groupset on an older bike, will BB fit?

This is probably a common question, but there is an overwhelming amount of information, and I know to little to figure it out:

I got a new 105 groupset for my Pinarello Angliru 2006, this one:
Shimano 105 5750 10 Speed Double Groupset | Chain Reaction Cycles

Will the Hollowtech II Bottom Bracket SM-BB5700 BSA fit? Or do I need another? It seems to me to be a question of english or italian threads, but more than that I can't figure out.

It would be fine to know before I remove the crankset, because I have an appointment with someone who can help me do this next week, and before that there is a lack of both tools and time.

So if I need another BB, I have to get it soon. I guess.

Thanks for any replies shedding light on this.

Pictures? I'll try to get some!

I would assume, based on the link, that you received a British sized BB. I would also assume your Italian bike has an Italian sized BB.

You might need to exchange the BB : https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/u...t/rp-prod38998

The Op needs to confirm the specs of his bike (through the source he got it from) and the new BB (from Chain Reaction). Or just get both BBs and return, NIB, the Bb the wasn't needed. Andy.

Thanks, I've sent CR a mail about it, and for the source of the bike, it was bought used, but I'll check with the shop that sells them here in Oslo.

Italian threaded bb shell:
70mm wide
Drive side is regular thread

English threaded bb shell:
68mm wide (road)
Drive side is reverse thread.

Measure the bb shell across the frame with calipers and check the threading on the drive side.

That is good information, thanks!

ChainReaction answered and they have no info on the Pinarello, but asks me to measure across the bottom of the frame if it is 68 or 70mm. I did, and it's 69! I need something more accurate to measure with.

The one I have in hand now is 68. I can get a 70mm and when we start working on it, I'll have both.

Edit: But you're saying that, 'Measure with calipers'. Will do.

I assume this will fit, there is no difference between an 105 and Ultegra BB is it? I mean, in connecting the crankset?

It's not an option with Italian threads, but this is, I reckon there is no difference, except for weight and so?

Look at the drive-side threading -- is it regular threading or reverse threaded? Look at the bb threading from an extreme angle more in line with the plane of the frame -- regular threading looks like it angles up from right to left; reverse threading looks like it angles down from right to left. Regular threading = Italian BB; reverse threading = English BB.

Function and fit are identical. Bearing quality might be a bit better on the Ultegra.

Thanks for all replies, I know a little bit more about BBs after this, and when I start the work I will for sure find out!

Nice idea, but with postage from Norway to the UK, can't see this as being cost effective, would be cheaper to sell the un-needed one locally,

I will sell the one I don't need locally. Couldn't find any BB I needed in a store here in Oslo.

You don't need calipers to measure the bottom bracket shell - any metric ruler will suffice. Measure the width of the shell where the bb screws in. If it is 68 mm it is English (or BSA) and if it is 70 it is Italian (or USBB - Unthreading Spaghetti-Eater Bottom Bracket)
