low cost shipping
not to sure this is the right place to post this. i just shipped a bicycle to my daughter by amtrak, springfield ma to denver co. $15 for a box at the station, 60.50 shipping including 300 insure and 2 for parking. take the pedals off, turn the bars, roll it into the box, tape it up and off it goes. delivery was stated as 4 to 6 days. they call when the bike gets in and is ready for pick up, it will be held for 2 days no charge, after that 3 a day. i called the amtrak # and they were very helpful finding a station that had the box, and other details. the lbs said the last bike they shipped to co was 160 via fedex. good deal if you can make it work.

Where they serve, Amtrak is a nice easy way to ship. Many bus lines also have low cost package services. Otherwise I ship my bike in two boxes via UPS or Fedex ground for very low cost even coast to coast. I pack in two boxes to stay within size limitations which can add hefty charges (especially with UPS).

picking up the box at the station was a plus since i only have a compact car, so no hassle tying a box down on the roof. i was looking at 2 boxes but was not to sure how the daughter would get things back together. if amtrak had not worked out for sure i would have gone the 2 box route.
