Need help with sizing for Shimano Dura-Ace FD-9000 Crankset and Wheelset

I am about to order my very 1st road bike and it's the Cannondale Super Six Evo Carbon 105 (SuperSix EVO Carbon 105 5 - SUPERSIX EVO - ELITE ROAD - ROAD - BIKES - 2015). I'm still deciding between 48cm or 50cm frame. Leaning towards the 48.

My 1st question is. I plan on changing the crankset to the shimano dura ace fd-9000 11speed, i think it goes for around $450 or so. I'm not sure what size I need to get and if theres anything extra I may need to get it installed to my new bike. My bike comes with the FSA crankset standard.

2nd, I have the Shimano DURA-ACE CARBON CLINCHER 50MM wheelset (WH-9000-C50-CL), and I'm about to order a new set of tires for them. Again, I'm unsure of the size. I was looking to get them in 700x23c. Will this fit?

Thanks.

digaz, Ride the bike for awhile before making expensive changes. First things first is to dial in the fitment. Best if you can ride at least one of the sizes you listed, even if a different model.

according to the specs, your bike has a PF30 BB, the 9000 crank spindle is too small for the bearings that are designed for PF30 bearings. unless Cannondale have supplied the bike with some adapters you may be in for a disappointment. you might want to bone up on PF30 BB frame shells, and PF30 bearings to to 24mm crank spindle conversion products.

basically, as i understand it, PF30 frame BB shells and BB30 frame BB shells use the same bearings. those bearings have an inside diameter of 30mm, and are consequently designed for cranks with 30mm spindles. Shimano uses a 24mm spindle in the 9000 crank, if i'm not mistaken.

as for the tires, there should be no problem as long as the tires are clinchers.

BTW, the previous post provides good advice.

and if i really wanted to do what you are suggesting i would ask the seller (i'm assuming it going to be purchased from an LBS) what they can do to make the swaps as part of the purchase price. plus labor, etc.

Thanks guys for the advice! I'm just really excited to get my bike. I just love going fast and the feel that a road bike gives me. But for sure the crankset will be my next upgrade on my to-do list. I will keep that in mind. But for sure I have my heart and mind set on the Shimano DA 9000 Crank Set.

Don't go ordering that expensive crank before you have any idea on what size chainrings, and crank arms you need. My 52 cm EVO came with 172.5 mm length crank arms with 52/36 teeth chainrings. I didn't think I would like it but have gotten used to it, and now prefer it (my older bike has 167.5mm crankarms with 50/34 teeth chainrings). Basically, nobody here can give you an answer as to "what size you need." Try out what comes with the bike and see if you are comfortable and work from there.

This statement absolutely baffles me. This is your first road bike, you haven't ridden it a mile and you are ready to spend hundred of dollars on an "upgrade" that will have no measurable benefit.

You've been told several times that the 700 x 23 tires will be just fine.
Looks like 700 x 25 come stock, but the slightly narrower 23 will fit.

OP is building a "bling" bike, more for show than riding. Most questions have already been answered in another thread.

I think the bike is PF30, so would a Dura-Ace crankset/BB need a threaded adapter installed in the BB shell ??

Here's some quick googling for relevant items for using Shimano cranks in newer frames. Shimano really isn't the BEST choice for BB30/PF30/BB386 etc. frames since Shimano ONLY makes 24mm spindles. FSA, SRAM, Rotor, and many other manufacturers have 30mm spindle options on their cranks and provide their own native bearing sets as options.

The fact that it's all Wheels Manufacturing is totally coincidental, I swear.

BB30 vs PF30

Wheels Mfg PressFit 30 to Outboard Bottom Bracket for 24mm Cranks (Shimano) This is pretty typical.

Wheels Mfg BB30 Adapter For Shimano | Competitive Cyclist (older style adapter) Wheels Manufacturing BB30-SHIM (newer style, more technical)

Adapters that allow for threaded bottom bracket cups also exist, but I think one of those methods above would be better.

When it comes to BB creaks, BB30/PF30 can be a pain in the behind on their own. I don't even want to think about how much a nightmare it would be to hunt down a creaking with one of those adapters that tap into the 6806 bearings.

You don't even need to tap them in, they're loose enough you just set them in by hand.

Though TBH, I haven't seen much in the way of creaking issues (Maybe Delrin or whatever plastic they're made of doesn't creak... or a bike of that price just doesn't see too much bad weather) but there's a smidge of play that isn't there normally. 90% of time that I've seen this issue come up (24mm in a xx30 frame), the owners see the light and go to a 30mm spindle crank (usually a Red drivetrain for the guys that want light weight, or Rotor)
