Tire sizes

Quick question regarding tire sizes. I've got 700X32 slicks on my commuter for summer, and 700x35c studded for winter. The problem is that studs are ground down to nothing. My shop only had studs in a 700x38; will that work on my bike, do you think?

It depends entirely on fork and rear triangle clearances, as well as fenders, if you have them. You can either measure the existing clearance and extrapolate, or ask the shop if you can do a quick swap while you're there and check it out.

Because I'm new enough to this stuff that I don't know exactly what works (hence the question) and because I like the guys at my local bike shop and want to support that local business, rather than some internet giant. But hey: thanks for the super-helpful reply to my question!

Hi Causal,

In addition to knowing whether the 700x38 will fit your bike frame without rubbing the seat stays and chain stays, you need to also know if that size tire will fit your rims. What size are your rims? If your wheel rims are narrow and you're already "pushing" things to fit a 700x35 on them, a 700x38 may be too much.

Kind regards, RoadLight
