Replacing a Swedish/Norwegian crank (Fauber one piece) with something better

Hi all,

It took a bit of research for me to figure out how to do this so I thought I'd post my results here to help anyone who may be trying to do the same thing.

I picked up a 1972 Crescent Varldsmastarcykeln bicycle which came with a very heavy one piece crank. I wanted to replace the crank with a nice Campagnolo Strada from the same period but, taking one look at the bottom bracket, I knew I was in for a challenge.

Bikes in that region, at that time period, had bottom brackets designed for Fauber cranksets and they are nowhere near the same size/thread as anything else used anywhere else. So, to change it to a nice Campy crank, my only hope was to find an adapter. Fortunately, after using much Google Translate, I found that folks in that area have similar desires, and someone in Finland has made an adapter.

FAUBER ADAPTER MODEL "B”

The FAUBER ADAPTER MODEL "B” is the magic item. It converts the non-standard bottom bracket to Italian-threaded. I ordered one and it arrived in less than a week. I was able to use a modern Campagnolo 36 x 24 (70mm) bottom bracket. Pics of the results below.
