Snapped brake boss!

Just the other day, I picked up a old Fuji mountain bike frame (no bb, no headset or fork) from the local co-op, and I'm building up into a 29" commuter/crazy moustache barred/cyclocross bad weather bike. Everything seems fine on the bike, but one of the brake bosses on the back is snapped off. Is that something than can be repaired, or should I cut my losses, saw them both off, and install sidepull brakes? I was hoping they would be repairable, because I'm partial to contilever brakes, but I don't even know if they'll reach up to the 700c tire I'm cramming into the mountain frame.

I've seen the bosses that just screw into mountain forks.. is it possible to just drill these out to install one of those?

Thanks for your help!

I would use side pulls.
It's a back brake afterall and probably wont see much use.
Just my $0.02
Enjoy

oooh---first off, you won't be able to fit cantilever brakes to 700C wheels on a 26" wheel frame, so foget about it being snapped. the only way you'd be able to use them anyway would be to go with 26" wheels.

what kind of dropouts do you have? if horizontal, you can go internally geared with either a coaster or "roller" brake, or even fixed if you don't need gears.

the back thing CAN be repaired, but I'd want to take it to a framebuilder, and it will probably cost more than its worth

more thoughts: 700C wheels on a frame designed for 26" will screw up the handling a bit. if you use a 26" front fork, your stuck with sidepulls. if you use a 700C front fork, the handling is messed up.

have you thought about a new frame?
