Barrel Adjuster Barrel Internal Diameter
I replaced my Tektro dual-pivot caliper brakes with a set of Shimano BR-5800 brakes. The installation was a non-event except for one thing - the internal diameter of the barrel adjusters on the Shimano brakes was too small to accommodate the brake housing end cap.
I tried various types, both plastic and the metal, including the caps that came with the new brakes, but all of them rode on top of the adjuster rather than inside it. It was as if the expectation was that the housing was to be used without end caps.
The inner diameter as received was 3/16". In the end, I just chucked them into the drill press and re-drilled them to 7/32". They work perfectly now. I'm sure they would have worked fine the way they were but it just didn't seem right to me. Has anyone else experienced that or have an explanation?

That is the expectation. Shimano levers are designed to be used without ferrules on the brake cable, as shown in the installation guide. To be fair, it doesn't explicitly say, "Don't use a ferrule," but it doesn't tell you to use one and it shows the cable being installed without one. (If your levers included cables and ferrules, the ferrules are intended for use on the frame's cable stops.)
ETA: The ferrules were supplied with the brakes. I didn't change levers. Also, I'm a consumer, not a mechanic, so I went by the included instruction sheet which was singularly unhelpful. The only pertinent information it contained was how to adjust the pads to the rim and how to open and close the brakes. Nothing at all on installation.

My mistake above, in the quoted post that no longer exists... I wrote about the levers, not the brake caliper itself. (I tried to delete the post quickly enough to pull my foot out of my mouth, but I was too late!) Anyway, the same info applies for the caliper. No ferrule.
Below is a link to the dealer guide for the brake. It might be more detailed than the instructions that came with the brake. Just like with the levers, it doesn't say outright not to use a ferrule, but it doesn't say to use one, either.

The link you posted was installation for levers, not brakes. Did you mean to post a different link?
Yikes, just saw your previous post - disregard.
