What defines a 'proper length TT'? As far as I knew, it's all "one size fits all," ain't it - if not, how do I determine what a proper length is?

Street rider 10-19-12 08:30 AM

Its sort of like fitting a road bike, except not. Really the only thing that matters is TT length dependent upon height, and a good portion being inseam length. For instance, I'm 5' 10", and I prefer a 20.75 in TT, maybe even a 21.

How tall are you?

AK404 10-19-12 11:09 AM

I'm 5'6," Street Rider. I'll be sure to measure out the top tube on that Detroit today, maybe something like 19.5" or so?

Street rider 10-19-12 06:37 PM

More like a 20-20.5" would be comfortable.

AK404 10-20-12 12:01 PM

Hm. Apparently, the Detroit has a 21" TT. Dang it.

Street rider 10-20-12 07:22 PM

Their site shows several completes with a shorter TT

AK404 10-21-12 10:22 PM

Yeah, I know. Just found out the boss has some old Black Pearls in the back, so going to do some research into those.

I'd say go for the eastern. I got and eastern PayDirt for $35(needed a LOT of work) I'm glad I got it, and would recommend eastern to anyone.

And even though this place is dead now, when it was alive and kicking, every single poster here would recommend the exact opposite. I've seen many more Eastern failures than I have from anything else. Maybe someone who's brand new to BMX bikes, and doesn't know how to do small things like even bunnyhop, it might be ok.

Can't figure out which bike to buy?

I don't know how to bunny hop, but I sorely want to learn. The better the bike, the more likely it'll survive the torture I'm going to put it under.

Exactly. The better the bike, the longer it'll last and the easier it will be to learn on.

Looking for a beginner bike with a price range of about 360 (please no more, lol) - I am 6' and 150lbs

Have been considering http://www.harobikes.com/bmx/bikes/2...ies/200-3-2013, but there aren't too many reviews out on it since it is new, and the only two reviews I have found weren't the greatest. On danscomp.com they have a lot of nice bikes for 340-360, but none of them have a detangler. What I'd really like is a park/street bike with front and rear brakes, 3 pc cranks, and a detangler - rear brakes are what I would like the most, so if there is any with a detangler and rear brakes that would be sweet too

I've been reading a bit more, and since I'm a complete noob at BMX I don't really need a detangler, or front brakes at the moment. I'd really like to go ahead and get front brakes (wouldn't have to buy new forks) but I can manage without while I learn the basics - I was also looking at these bikes in my range on danscomp, and would like it if anyone had some opinions / suggestions / advice! Thanks for helping out a noob, it is much appreciated

1st link has a cromoly frame, rest are hi-ten steel (sorry for so many links)

Full crmo on that first one, buy it. Its a pretty good bike for that price.

ekaj 12-27-12 10:23 PM

Those last bikes I posted from danscomp are all about 25.0-25.5 pounds, so I (I think I am right to assume) that the frames are pretty much the same weight - you still think that would be the best option? (I am asking because I looked up a few reviews of the Cult CC02, some didn't think too highly of it) - I was just going to toss out the two with Xs because they aren't drilled for gyro tabs (premium and unltd are), and that Cult has that cromo frame - thanks for your help, by the way

Street rider 12-27-12 11:05 PM

A gyro really isn't a big deal. They're heavy, and you can still barspin/whip just fine with a long cable.

ekaj 12-28-12 12:07 AM

Okay street rider last question =p I am probably going to go with that Cult, I would be able to drill the holes for the gyro myself (I am not really worried about weight, would like front and rear brakes) - any idea if those forks would work with a gyro + top cable plate?

Street rider 12-28-12 10:50 AM

I don't see why not. Its not really the forks that have anything to do with that, its more the upper cup of the headtube/the top assembly of the headset.

ekaj 12-28-12 07:14 PM

Well apparently the day after I decided I was going to buy that bike (cult cc02) the-house and danscomp stop selling it, so I'll have to choose something else.

I'm thinking about that Premium, I could get a 21" TT and 8.5" risers, but the frame is hi-ten with a chromoly downtube
... or here is a Sunday, I honestly have no idea
http://www.danscomp.com/products-BIK...imer_Bike.html

Street rider 12-28-12 08:55 PM

Of all those, it pretty much comes down to what colors you like better. They're pretty much all the same bikes.

ekaj 12-30-12 02:59 AM

One thing I noticed after I ordered a bike is that all of the selections I have are integrated headsets... which has its advantages. I will probably get a new frame in a year or so, but I am kind of worried about the headset getting messed up some how (improper tightening, whatever) and ruining the whole frame... which would make me a) have to buy new forks AND frame, or B) buy another integrated frame and worry about the same thing again - is this a realistic concern when looking ahead to the future when considering cash and upgrading the frame / parks?

Street rider 12-30-12 09:15 AM

Not very realistic at all. The headset cups are a part of the frame, which tends to make them a little stronger and more protected than the older style cups. And you wouldn't have to buy new forks if you messed up your headset.

Was browsing CL and came across this WTP

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...579115708.html

later updated to include a xbox 360 elite

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...580566268.html

and lowered his price to $225 if not more... should I pick it up?

Street rider 01-30-13 08:40 AM

#1 - The Reason is not a $1500 bike. He's full of ****. The brand new 2013 is only $500.
#2 - Not a full chromoly frame, only the tt, dt and chainstays are. Won't take all the abuse as well.
#3 - It has to go in the next few days? Sounds like its probably stolen. Especially if he's going to throw in an xbox with it, and only as $225. My guess is that its hot.

Yeah it totally isnt a $1500 bike. I thought it was full cromo but you're right it's not, just has some cromo parts
But is it worth $200 for a 2012(?) WTP reason and an xbox elite?

I also have a 2004 DK 6 Pack but I find it really heavy.
I found this Haro http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/bn...579284684.html
for $150 but i don't know the model so I couldnt research it, but it looks cool.

Street rider 01-30-13 06:41 PM

That Haro is a 24", so its a lot different than anything else you're looking at. And like I said, I'm pretty sure that WTP is stolen. So you probably shouldn't go for it.
