1995 Eddy Merckx MX Leader frame and fork in Motorola colors
I have the opportunity to obtain my holy grail frame and fork. This is a 1995 reissue. It is my size, 62. I am very tempted, as it is hard to find one in size 62. This one is in excellent condition. I'd appreciate your comments as to what would be a reasonable range for this frame and fork.
Thanks for your time.

For an MXL in excellent condition, you would probably expect to pay $800 - $1000 if not more. I may be biased but it's worth every penny. I watch ebay every day for Merckx bikes - check completed listings for a better idea on what they go for.

MXL that is the MAX frame yes? I would certainly get it especially if it is your size.

The seller is asking $1400. I'm willing to pay a little more, since it's hard to find in my size, but I don't want to overpay. That's very interesting about the NOS frame; thanks for pointing that out. I thought I had scoured the web and exhausted info on all MX Leaders for sale. I have a Merckx Corsa that I absolutely love. I rode an MX Leader team bike recently and it felt great. The timing is not great now, but I'm not sure when another one in my size would come up for sale.

At $1400 it better be really, really nice, with near perfect paint. The GVH one is a mere centimeter taller (or maybe the same size depending on your measuring system), but only 200 more. AFAIK, he's also a very reputable seller.
I'm too riding tall frames, but find anything between 60 to 65 to work out fine.
Maybe I shouldn't promote the GVH Merckx, since I've had it on the radar for myself for quite some time..

I know these MAX frames were always very expensive. I think I had to pay another 200 for my Bianchi frame even with a SL warranty credit and employee price. the retail in 90/91 for the frame was 1K. there is a used 60 MXL on ebay right now for 899.
the paint looks a bit rough though

Congrats Force! It sounds like you're close to your dream either way! Maybe you could leverage the one you were looking at with the NOS?

KonAaron - my thoughts exactly, though both this one and the NOS are more than I would like to spend. Hopefully I can get the price down a bit. There is also a Caloi branded MX Leader team bike in Motorola colors near where I live that is a size 60. I was thinking it was a little small, but perhaps that would work. He's asking $2K for complete bike with Dura Ace 8 speed. We'll see what happens. I'm going to be selling off a lot of my stuff to make it work either way. Check the classifieds here in a day or two!
Thanks to everyone for the responses.

I'm extremely biased, but go for the Motorola colors...the only paint scheme that I think compares to it was the early red-yellow-white team Raleigh scheme.

My Motorola MX Leader (MXL)
Hi -- sorry if I'm digging up an old thread. I have a MX Leader complete bike, in Motorola colors, c. 1995-96 (can anyone tell me the year? Serial # seems to be F8048). Size 58/57 (ST/TT). It's built up with Campy Record 10 throughout, and has Rolf Vector Pro sewups, decent tires. Paint is very close to flawless (some very minor cable rub, one chip on the underside of the chain stay, chrome and all decals perfect). Very few MX Leaders on the market in this kind of condition these days -- most on the auction site are in rough shape (even "in need of repair"). My domestic circumstances require its sale (I also have a Parlee Z4 and a Storck Fenomalist) and I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on a reasonable price point. I am also new to this board and so not allowed yet to post to the classifieds, but I'm working on building up my post count so I can. Thanks, though, for any opinions in the meantime.

You're better off making a new thread in the appraisals forum, the more pictures the better. It's a beautiful bike so you should get a good response.

Prices seem to have held steady at $800-$1000 for a used MXL frame and fork in excellent condition. Complete bikes are out there in the $1600+ range but seem to be moving very slowly. You might make more money and move things along more quickly by selling the frame/fork and components separately. A pain, yes, but some buyers interested in a complete bike will be turned off by some component of the build, whereas a frame in that size would sell right away and Campy 10 stuff seems very popular.

That is beautiful. I think that in the future, I might outfit my MXL with Record 10 speed. You should post your bike for sale on Serotta forum. If priced right, it would not last long.
