Bianchi limited appraisal
I rescued this bike from my inlaws garage about 15 years ago.
About:
>Late 80's or early 90s
>22" seat post
>Shimano 600 everything that can, everything else is Bianchi
>very original, Forte' kevlar tires are added. bar tape is added over original green cloth. There was a celeste bike with the same tape on Ebay a month or so ago, this is not the same bike, just someone else with bad taste.
>7.00 x 23 durex rims
>Beautiful bike, small nick in seat and a couple bike rack smudges, missing pedal straps, Made In Italy sticler is peeling up a little
>86-87 Campione del Mondo Colorado Springs sticker, Columbus formula two sticker on seat post, Columbus Formula stickers on both sides of fork, Sold by Circle Cycle in Torrance CA sticker.
>Rides like a dream unlil the 700s hit the rumble strips
I have been researching this bike for a month or so and have not seen this bike in this pristine/original condition. It looks like the best Bianchi intelligence on the net is watching these forums. Let my son take it to college or keep it hanging in the tack room??
I hope the picture attachment works

I say get him something off of Craigslist that is no big deal if stolen. Happens all the time in college, as well as getting rained on etc, by the elements.
You have a great example of a Japanese loaded Bianchi. They are not made anymore and are desirable. I would take it and clean it slowly...get to know it, every square inch of Celeste and chrome. Maybe take it down to the LBS and get some ideas on more current rims/tires and even get a nice new leather seat for it. Make it yours. Even if you ride it only on occasion, you will love that bike. 600 is an excellent groupo set. My 2 cents worth. Just sayiin!
I have not started buying more modern Bianchis 70's-90's for my collection of Bianchis yet. That bike would be one I would like to have a similar one to add some day. Good luck on whatever your decision is!

I agree I would not send that bike off to college. check out CL for a used mountain bike or hybrid, they make better college bikes as they are more upright and durable bikes.
this Bianchi is a '87, identifiable by the world champ sticker and the style of Bianchi decal. this was the last limited built on a Columbus frame, starting in '88 the frame was made in Japan, then to other places. the limited was always a good entry level racer and triathalon bike.
personally I think this looks and great and unless the tires are dryrotted I see no reason to replace them and as for the rims/wheels, there is no reason to replace them either.

+1 Send him with a $100 rigid frame MTB. My first bike in college lasted two weeks before it was stolen.

Another great bike for college (unless there are hills around campus) is the good old 3-speed "Tourist" variety. Raleigh Sports, various Schwinns and the like. Fenders and racks really help, the price of acquisition is right and the coolness factor for the rider is higher than an MTB. I am restoring a Schwinn Breeze from my daughter's College bike and she is nuts over it...
Keep the Bianchi hanging and he can ride it when he comes back on breaks
