Hi,

I just picked up a Fiori Exella bike for $50. It's in MINT shape, and the colours are crazy! It's black, spackled with turquoise and purple paint all over it. Very 80s and seriously in excellent shape. Anyway, I was hoping someone might be able to tell me about it, as there is nothing anywhere on the internet about it. It has a Shimano SIS derailleur and a sakae crank. Also, it's 14 speeds.

How much is this bike worth? Did I get a good deal? Any info at all on the bike would be great!

Fiori was a division of Norco in Canada during the late 80's to early 90's. They were their pseudo-Italian road bike brand.
Don't remember where the Excella fell in their line-up, but if it has Hi-Ten tubing it's probably bottom-of-the-line. Most of their stuff was at least made of Cro-Mo.

+1 Worth about $50, depending where you live. If it has a cromoly frame, then the value would be over $100.

Yah Fiori's are definitely a Canadian thing. I see them around town in Vancouver all the time, not because there are a lot of them but because they all stand out like a wolf at a sheep convention. Which is a good thing in my mind. I also see people trying to pass them off as Italian made on craigslist occasionally.
SIS shifting means it is indexed and should change gears with a simple click of the shifter once it is tuned up nicely. SIS was not top of the line for Shimano in the late '80s (not even close) but it worked and for lots of people indexed shifting is a nice thing to have on a vintage bike.
Sakae cranks are decent alloy cranks. I imagine most, if not all, of the other major parts on your bike are alloy as well.
As people above said, if it is indeed made of Hi-ten steel like that other Excella on bikeforums.net was then the value to a collector/enthusiast is pretty slim. However, to a young person living in a city like mine where vintage road bikes are as hot as the weather is right now, a minty and flashy vintage bike with SIS shifting for $50 is an absolute coup!
So to sum up, as you described it your Fiori Excella could be worth:
To C&V-ers ~$50-75
To Kids/Hipsters/Scenesters/Students on Vancouver craigslist ~$200-275 (maybe more if you tried to sell it in July)

I think you got a good deal.

common misconception about fiori is that they are not made in italy. In fact, some were made in Italy, like my Fiori "Amalfi" road bike which is built from columbus steel and outfitted with campagnolo, gipiemme, and modolo bits. It does seem though that most are made in canada and yet still have an italian look.
