Banged up Raleigh Sports chain guard. Any blacksmiths??

Just acquired a late 60's Raleigh Sports and there are many dents in the chain guard. I dont know if i should try to bang on it to straighten it out..... fill it and paint over it or what.

Any suggestions? I guess i can just leave it alone....

A lot of these chainguards seem not to make it. Why is that??

Steel? Aluminum? Chrome? Paint? Natural?
Without knowing what material/finish, I'd offer in the general sense to use wooden implements, a wood underlayment and work from the inside. You can easily take a piece of hardwood dowel of the needed diameter and cut lengths, making different-shaped ends like 'ball', 'chisel', 'wedge' or whatever as you need them. A small non-marring hammer can come into play too.
