I'm looking for help to better identify a vintage Benotto in my area -- in particular, the year and model, if possible. I've read a lot through the threads here and elsewhere and understand there's a lot of confusion and heresay about Benottos, such as when they shifted production to Mexico and quality of the bikes. I'm hoping with the information I provide here, someone can help narrow this one down. Here are the details I know:

Ishiwata tubing (sticker intact)
No sticker indicating model number
Campagnolo Rear dropout
Crome Fork and Campagnolo (I think) front dropout
Heart shaped cut-out on BB
Stamped "271" on BB
Campagnolo Headset and BB
Campagnolo shifters
Campagnolo Gran Sport Crank (pantographed crank arm and chainring)
Campagnolo GS(?) or NR(?) front derailleur
Campagnolo GS(?) or NR(?) rear derailleur with "Pat. '82"
Benotto pantographed stem
Cinelli bars
Brake levers and brakes - unsure (non Campagnolo)
Wheels - unsure; not original; replaced by current owner in early 1990s

The current owner was told by someone that this was an early 70's bike, but I think much later, probably early 80's, especially given the Pat. 82 rear derailleur, although that could have been added later. The bike color also seems unique to me as I have not seen Benottos in this paint scheme and the decals seem to be original. Overall, the bike is in very good condition and no signs of cracking, as has been commented on by others about Benottos made in Mexico.

I'm considering buying the bike, but am not in any rush ... at this point, I'd like to help the owner figure out more about it. He bought it from the original owner about 20 years ago and didn't know much about the history of the bike back then.

I welcome any thoughts or comments: year(?) model(?) where made(?)

The subject crankset is the 5 pin version of Gran Sport, which was introduced in 1979 and produced though 1985. These were typically spec'd on the Benotto 1000. If you post pictures on your bicycle, we may be able to confirm the model and narrow down the range.

I would love to know about this bike also because I have the stripped frame and fork I bought off Ebay. The only difference is that mine does not have the heart cut-out on the bottom bracket. I have not seen this paint color either; one model that is close is a 2200. My tubing sticker might be different.
I bought an 850 Paris-Roubaix model back in 85 that was definitely from Mexico and had the heart-shape cutout.

I sent some pictures of the cranks. I picked up a bike yesterday by chance and had these on them.

The bike in question is a Bianchi Stelvio. I figured these did not come with this bike. The Bianchi looks to have the Campy GS group set. After some due dilligence, I am figuring from other posts that the Bianchi was from 1985. Made only one year? Serial number S6059D 5.

Any other information would be helpful.

They should be 700c wheels. I think the OEM hubs would have been Miche or Ofmega.

The 1985 Bianchi Stelvio was spec'd with Campagnolo Triomphe derailleurs and hubs, laced to Mavic Module E2, 700C rims. Spec crankset and headset were Ofmega, while the brakes were Modolo. Curiously, the OEM pedals were Lyotard.

She has those cranks I sent pictures of and some 27" Araya wheels? Garage sale item.

These Italian bikes are new to me. I collect the early 80's Stump jumpers and touring bikes restore and make them Touring Hot Rods and cyclo camping bikes.
