So whats this bike worth? I don't know much about road bikes I've been riding bmx my whole life and I picked up this bike on craigslist a year ago for 150. At first I hated it because I had never rode a bike this size but now I love it and don't ride my bmx anymore lol. I don't want to sell but I do want to paint it blue. My buddies tell me not to because its original and worth more like that but I don't think its worth more than 200. What do you guys think.

DO NOT PAINT IT. It's only original once. It may be a '84 or 1985 660. If so it's made with Reynolds 531cs tubing. I had one that was too small. It was a VERY nice riding bicycle.
Look on the bottom of the bike for a serial number and check the vintage Trek website. In warmer months where I live if it's in very good condition ready to ride= $300+, IMHO. It also looks like a size that's easy to sell, like 22 1/2".

+1 You got a real good deal on it. Paint it blue if you want, but realize you are dropping an atom bomb on its value. +/- $300 now. Painted: cut that in half, maybe more, and spend $$ doing it. I've sold a lot of steel Treks in the last few years, they are hot and getting hotter (I would gladly buy back every single one I sold at my original selling price). Buyers pay a premium for original, pristine, steel Treks.

Basic Treks in good shape bring about $200. A Trek 660 is a couple of meaningful steps up from there.

Also, in my experience, Trek paint used on vintage steel bikes is the best I have seen. I have picked up several, where the bike itself was trashed out, but the paint was pristine. You will be hard pressed to create a paint job that is anywhere near as durable as the original.

Want a blue bike, no problem. Sell your Trek, and buy a blue bike. A lot of vintage bikes came in blue, it was a real common color for Japanese manufacturers. I have had blue Univegas, Miyatas, Panasonic, Nishiki, and on and on.

Very good info looks like its a 84 660. I was told its a 56cm frame. Ive put almost 2000 miles on it I got it a year ago I was at my local bike shop and looking at new treks but the ones that were in my price range did not feel as good as this bike. I wanted to restore it to original condition but blue because it has lots of scratches but ill just leave it alone and ride it.

wrk101 thats a good idea I think Ill keep an eye out for a blue vintage trek although I don't think Ill be selling this one.

Scratches are no big deal, every bike has them. Unless you get a professional paint job costing hundreds of dollars any spray job you could do yourself will scratch immediately. I'm with tmh657, it's only original once and yours looks pretty nice. Once you paint it all the original decals are lost. I'll pay twice as much for fair original paint than even a quality repaint with no decals. If you like it, keep it. The 660 was a great bike (I'm partial to old Treks as well.)

Although the picture you posted is small I'd say your bike is well worth $300.

You got an excellent deal. I bought an '89 660 frame for $50 a few years ago and felt like I got a steal. But if yours is an 84 it is Reynolds 531c which is very sought after.
