They belonged to a biochemist at Texas A&M who looks like he spent some time in Michigan

From what Ive put together it seems like top dollar for the huffy would probably be 200 to the right person, but more than likely 100 if I wanted to sell it(bought it for the girlfriend so its really not for sale)

MY question on that one is how rare or interesting is it and am I creating any kinda sacrilege painting/customizing it?

The Huffeigh might not be worth as much as you estimate. Customize it if you want. You want hurt the value.

The Raleigh is pretty cool though. What is the date and name on the rear hub? (You may have to clean some oil/grease off of it to see it). Looks like the fenders, Brampton speedy switch, and chainguard may be replacements. It is in pretty rough shape. I'd give it a tune up and putz around town on it.

Huffy is basically worthless, it's not British, it's american built, and worth maybe $40-50 if cleaned up and gotten to rideable condition.

The Raleigh may be pre-war based on the serial number, and will be worth significantly more than the Huffy.

OP is lucky to have a girlfriend who would be happy with a Huffy. Only in Aggieland.

I told another noob who planned to give his GF a tired looking clunker that he would be lucky to keep her as his GF if he gave her the bike.

Barkeeper's Friend cleanser with a wet sponge will clean up the chrome and paint rust nicely. $2 a can.

So, the hub is black and I don't think it's grime or grease

to the left of archer and below there is an AW, then to the right it says PATENT with no number or anything

What's the deal w/ second photo, that shows a left rear drop out of a green frame with weird lines or grooves (or cracks?) in the stays just past the dropout? Is that normal?

im no expert, but it looks like the rear dropouts on the ladies bike are crimped onto the tubing, or rather the tubing was crimped or pressed onto the dropout

Any more thoughts on the age of the Raleigh? There isn't a lot of relief on the hub(plus its black), ill try to get a better picture with a flash

it has a dunelt saddle, Is it good to use saddle soap and mink oil on them? Kinda looking for advice on how to procede, I don't want to take away or screw up a vintage bike.

All black Raleighs were produced in the second world war to comply with blackout restrictions... when you find a date code on the hub it may very well indicate 1940's production.

The other black parts on what is normally a well plated bicycle also indicates that the bike is either a 40's model or has had 1940's parts used on it.

Don't use saddle soap or mink oil on the saddle. Use Brooks Proofide or Obenhauf's. Plenty of threads on this topic if you search.

I also agree that the Huffy is worth $50 at most, and then only if cleaned up.

Cool Raleigh, I also think it is probably a wartime bike. Cleaned up and in good shape it should be worth several times as much as the Huffy. But if that was mine, I'd probably keep it.

Ill search a little bit more for info with regards to saddle maintenance/care, I guess I was just wondering if recommendations varied on a saddle that's probably close to 70 years old

so would u guys clean up the chrome, buff the paint(leave the stickers), replace the tires? I don't want to negatively affect the value

What do you guys think its worth? I'm still not sure as the serial num looks like it could be 1948 https://www.kurtkaminer.com/TH_raleigh_serials.html but it also looks like it has wartime parts(black no date SA hub, black chain-ring).

Maybe postwar production with wartime parts?? Is there any difference in value given the condition?

If it doesn't matter then im probably gonna try to clean/restore everything but the paint.
