Here goes my first real post!
I am helping a friend (who knows nothing about bikes) buy a bike and I'm considering this 87 Fuji Flair on craigslist, here is the link:

I haven't really found definitive reviews of this frame...is it a decent model? I had never heard of it before but I am relatively new to this so that isn't saying much. The catalog says it originally came with a Suntour alpha 3000 gt rd but this one has a Suntour V gt, which I've read lots of good things about. Is this a reasonable price for what it is? Also, I am hoping that this bike will be the only one my friend will have to buy for a very long time. Is it a good bike to settle on? Thanks in advance!

bike is really small, is it gonna fit you? The bike could use a cleaning job too.

Yeah, its a 52cm. I'm not sure that the seat post will come out enough for my friend though. She needs about 1/2-1" more room than me. She just broke her collar bone in a wreck and isn't supposed to be riding so I want to really check the bike out before I have her get on it to see if it works. I know it will be close.

She isn't supposed to be riding and you're going to get her a bike and attempt to fit her to it?

Um, don't.

Wait until her doctor has released her to full activities. Falls and accidents happen. If you love your friend, you won't put her at risk.

The Dr. told her she can ride as long as she doesn't fall which is kind of funny because nobody plans on falling! You are probably right though, that even a ride around the block to check for frame fit could be hazardous.

That said, I would still like to know about this frame. Hopefully someone knows something about it.

Considering it needs new tires, the saddle is scuffed, etc., $115 is steep. Then again most C & V active buyers get the best deals. It probably needs a full overhaul too, which includes a tune up, truing, and redo of all four main bearing groups. If you can get the seller under $90, make the deal.

+1 on Phil's advice.

Equally important, if you want to give your GF that bike and you want her to love it, you have to spit shine it first. That includes replacing anything that looks tired and worn out, like the tires and saddle. Women don't like rust and they don't like dirt. I speak from experience of selling lots of vintage mixtes.

Whitewall tires, white saddle, and clean white bartape can be had for $50.

Looks smaller than a 52 to me, looks like a 48.

Sellers rarely/never get size right, which I always thought was weird, as measuring size takes less than 5 seconds.

IF you need a 48, its a decent deal, as XS bikes tend to bring a premium. On the other hand, if you need something a little larger, big PASS!

The good news is that a 21 inch frame size, that is very common, is 53cm.
