Accurate source for values on line?

Is there a place on line where I can look up values of bikes that is accurate?

Right now I use bicyclebluebook.com and found them to be way off. They are especially off on the high end cruisers! Had one the other day and they said $200 and I am having trouble getting even half that!

By the same token I have had some commuter bikes and they have been low.

Ebay sold transactions are your best bet.
The values the gentlemen here contribute are usually good within their marketplace, a few guys, your truly included, buy and sell across multiple states.

Bill's point about presentation is spot on. Looking at the various bikes you've posted on bikeforums.net, you can improve the photography as follows:

1. Drive side pictures, showing the crankset.
2. Squat lower and shoot the photo from a height about axle high.
3. Get closer or zoom in.
4. Position the bike in the middle of the wood fence or find a better uncluttered background.
5. If you have an adjustable camera, use the highest shutter speed possible to reduce depth of field. If you have an optical zoom, not digital, stand further back and zoom in, which will also reduce depth-of-field.

Also when looking at ebay selling prices, check shipping prices too since they can add significantly to the total cost of a bike.

You can also try a subscription to Worthpoint.com. Very spotty data on there and it can be years between sales, but it is an additional data point. Between that and eBay you can get a pretty good idea of potential value. End the though most of our bikes are worth what ever someone's willing to pay.

On a local sale, your personal experience or post here and ask. There's a lot of knowledge here. And realize if you see something you're selling on C/L for less than you're asking, you should probably lower your price. I've seen ads where people will say, "according to this site my bike is worth $___". I don't know if anyone takes that seriously, because the values given are meaningless and often way off.

For ebay, look at COMPLETED or SOLD listings only!!! Starting prices and buy-it-now asking prices mean nothing!!! This has been mentioned but I can't stress it enough.
