Help! Purchasing my first road bike..
Up until late I've been riding a hybrid and I guess lost interest after I started observing road bikers. I started shopping for one two days ago and I'm stuck between two. The first one is a Gitane French made early 70's model bike and the second being a Raleigh record also from the 70's .. Help me make the decision please. .. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Flicker, dropbox, picasaweb, then post links.
You may want to list the city you're in, your height, mechanical aptitude (if you want a project, budget too, then some can help with your search.

Start by learning How To Determine Vintage Bicycle Quality. That will help with any potential purchases.
Also, know that there are issues, associated with French bicycles and their refurbishment/restoration.
You might also want to know how to go about finding vintage bicycles. Hope it is a help.

What is your goal? Budget? Vintage? New?
Both of those bikes look pretty low-end. Ok for city bikes... but not spectacular vintage road bikes.
The forks on the Orange Gitane look bent. I'd leave it alone unless it is given to you for free.

The Gitane is a parts donor with a bent fork.
The Raleigh looks clean. The Question is, does it fit you?
Personally, I'd look for a bike that was built in the 90s, or newer if it will fit in your budget.

if the bike is your size and has had all that done doesnt look to bad of a deal. As long as the cranks and rear cogs are in good shape. Cant say if its low end or what. But for 100$ and its ready to ride and well tuned id for sure at least look at it

GP is cheap, but only if you are 5'4" or shorter. Figure out what size you need first.
