Vintage Peugeot - help identifying and with value
Thinking of buying this bike... All I have is this photo. Any ideas on the model, year or value? Worth $140? Thanks in advance!

The bicycle looks to be an early to mid seventies Peugeot UO8. The UO8 was/is a made in France entry level bicycle, or close to it. However, it is almost legendary for its fine ride quality. A nice one, in good shape, is worth $140.00 max, in my opinion. Now...
What are you thinking of using the bicycle for? Racing, commuting, recreation or simply an addition to a collection?
Do you have bicycle repair/maintenance skills? Without some maintenance skills, be prepared to shell out another hundred and fifty, or so, depending on "as found" condition.
Are you aware that there are problems associated with French bicycles, not that those problems are all that difficult to over come, these days.
All that said, I have a bit of a soft spot for old French bicycles. Their appearance and ride quality make them something I seek, when opportunity presents itself.

I just sold a white '75 UO8, like yours. After a thorough cleaning and a tuneup with new cables, chain, and bar tape, all I could get for it was $100. There's a lot of them out there, so the value really is what it's worth to you, not what you could sell it for. They're good basic bikes and ride well. For $140, it would have to have almost flawless paint and all its original components for me to say it was worth it.

Thanks for the quick input, guys... I saw it on local CL and thought it might be a bargain, but I guess not. The seller has lowered to $130, but still sounds too pricey. And I did not know about the problems with French fittings, etc. (thanks, randyjawa). I was thinking of offering $80, but even that sounds like it's too much, unless I could do an easy fixed gear conversion... Thanks again.
