Trek 1200 worth?

Can someone help me identify the year for this Trek 1200? It seems like early 90s model to me. And is it worth $280?

TREK 1200 ALUMINUM ROAD BIKE - 58cm

Thanks!

Trek Bike Models by Year and Color

Your buying from a retailer, so at $280, maybe they'll let it go for $250. Aero bars can be resold for $20. If tires are good and the bike is tuned and ready to ride, then mid $200's is okay.

A used Trek 1200 is likely to retain most of it's value if kept in good repair for the next 3-5 years.

A used Bikesdirect low end bike, not so much, probably depreciating by 1/2. Also, at a retail cost of say $175 before shipping, the components are made of low grade alloy or plastic.

Any advice on what should I look for on the bike when I go into the shop? As you might have guessed, I don't have too much experience with bikes, and I am buying my first road bike.

First, that bike size is for a 5'9-6'0" rider. Everything else you can read below.
