"rare" French made Sears 10 speed racer? pics/link!

Hi all,

Hard to find info on this one! But most keep telling me Sears didn't use French bikes during the 70's bike boon. This one's complete w/ rear view and a niiiice seat. Any insights as to the frequency and value?

The frame is like this one on ebay:

Thanks for your time!

Sears did indeed import some French bikes during the height of the bike boom when Puch couldn't keep up pace with demand. They are unusual, but really not any better than what Puch was making and certainly nothing special. Cottered cranks, hi-ten steel frame, steel wheels, average bike boom ten speed.

$100 give or take a little depending on how enthusiastic the buyer is.

+1 cottered cranks point to this being a foreign bike, as most lower-end bikes produced in the US used 1-piece cranks.

I would not pay $100 for it, but I could someone paying that much. I'd put its value more in the $75 range.

Are you selling? or buying? I agree I can't see this selling for much more than $75 to 100 unless your in a hot market like near a college campus or where lots of guys get DUIs at opening day.

To me this looks more like it is in yardsale condition, I think people looking for a bike via CL or the 'bay expect (HEY just who started calling it "the bay" anyway? I am kinda of hooked on the way it rolls off the tongue and soulds a bit more hightone the ebay OOOPS back to the OP) a much cleaner and ready to ride machine.

I also think while this may be 'rare' this is a case where rare does not automatically mean cha-ching! most of them are likely recycled into dumpsters and park benches by now.

Nothing says "quality racer" like a kickstand plate. I wonder what this guy thinks this is worth?
