1983 / 1984 Pogliaghi Italcorse (??) - need help identifying / pricing
Hey all,
New to the forums, and originally wasn't necessarily trying to get into vintage bikes. Found this one at a local thrift store, saw the Campy components and the price, and jumped on it. My trouble is figuring out all the specs. I would like to sell, as I am moving to Kaua'i in the spring (and it seems a shame to put a bike through that) - so any help on the price would be great as well.
I've done a ton of research, and the closest bike in terms of build was over here:https://www.classicrendezvous.com/Ita...aghi/12711.htm tho obviously the decals and paint are different. This has the shifters on the downtube, and the "bolted" seatstays with the "chroming", and the image seems to fit the 1980's catalogue as well. which is why I'm starting here. Serial #? Well, the closest I can tell is that it says #13_71 (the blank could be a 2 or a 8 or a ? - it looks like it was a bit of a miss number-wise). I've included pics of that as well.
Looks like Campy Record on the from and rear wheel hubs, Matrix wheels, look pedals, Suntour Rear derailer, Campy front, Sugino cranks (?), Cinelli stem and handlebars (Campione Del Mondo?), Campy Brev headset and campy seat stem.
Any help would be much appreciated!

The bike has pretty obviously had some changes. So the original specs don't matter much, unless you plan to buy up the missing parts and rebuild it. Bikes with a mix of parts tend to sell for about what the frame is worth. So some go to the trouble of stripping all of the parts, selling them separately, and selling the frameset separately as well.
Value depends on where you are located, and what method you plan to use for selling it (along with your marketing skills as well). Higher end bikes like yours tend to sell at a hefty discount on C/L, great for buyers, lousy for sellers.

Hello- Welcome,
Regarding this bike, I'd say it is likely 1985, and though I don't know for certain how it was equipped when new, the Suntour dr seems out of place on what is mostly Campy. Yes, and the Sugino crankset...anyhow, these later Pogs dont carry the same value as the pre '80 stuff. Still, a nice frame though. I saw something of similar age (but all campy, and nicer shape) sell for $375.... but then too, I checked completed ebay auctions and havent seen anything really close to yours, so tough to say. It looks to be in fair condition..but I see rust and scratches... A good whole bike photo from the driveside would be useful. If you parted it out and sold the frame seperate you might get a bit more then selling as complete. The guys who regularly flip bikes will weigh in this and have better/more current price info .....
Cheers,
Joe

How much work do you want to do disassembling and cleaning? Sounds like you just want to sell it. If so, I'd say you could get $200 without doing a thing.

Thanks for all the replies and info. I guess I wasn't too far off in the age. I thought it was a bit strange that they had swapped out parts for more modern/mainline stuff, so it's good to know what that all means in the end. It could use a good deep clean, which I'll likely get to next. So, about $250-300 all clean then. Hmm. Have to figure out, if for that price, I shouldn't just hang onto it for a road bike. Here are a couple other photos.

I would give it a higher value than $200 as it sits, but you have left out where you are and if you are willing to go to a wide (ebay) audience with potential shipping.
This is after Pogilaghi's high point, but it is still a nice bike. It does not have the intense collector value of bikes 10 years older.

I'm digging the fork and the fastback seatstays, but the parts mix is ghastly (though all decent stuff). Looks to be pretty close to my size, if you're anywhere near Boston I might be interested in it...though full disclosure (and this may offend some), I would strip it and update it with modern components.

Quite a bit more than $200 I would say. Campy brakes (can't see the levers), if cleaned up, sell for $75 at least. Campy BB and headset, another $100 at least. Cinelli stem and bars, $75. Campy hubs, at least $50. Campy seat post, $50. Parted out I think you would get at least $500 on eBay.

Yes the seller could part it out and sell it bit by bit onebay but that requires him to take everything off and clean it. Then post each piece, then pack and ship each piece. It may bring a higher value but also requires more work.
Was this bike ever "Original" Did Pogliaghi ever sell complete bikes to dealers or just frames that dealers and customers built up? Whether a bikie is a original gets tossed about quite a bit on these pages but unless the bike is a tried and true "off the shelf" bike like a Schwinn Peleton or Trek 760 can any bike ever be original?
Great looking bike.
I would love a road frame with this Escargo type shifter mount.

The Seattle C/L moves pretty well, and there are quite a few vintage enthusiasts there, so parted out, I think you could do pretty well there without having to ship stuff.

It really is a sweet bike, and my hope is that it goes to someone who can enjoy it more than I can, and preserve it better that it would be with a life in the salt-air of Kaua'i. So...
After following the advice of folks here on values and where to sell, I took a chance and posted it on Seattle C/L for $500 (figuring it would move down a bit with offers to the estimated range) and Ebay for $600 OBO (with a $150 shipping fee). I had one bite on C/L this evening and then...
sold it for $550 as-is on Ebay (+$150 shipping). (!!) Waiting on payment, but so far looks good based on the buyer rep.
My wife says I owe her dinner, as I paid around $17 (yes, I'm not leaving a zero out - seventeen dollars) last week at our local Goodwill for the bike. She officially hates me.
Thanks again everyone for responding so quickly & kindly to my novice Q's - super helpful and encouraging - especially wrk101, Ex Pres, 4Rings6Stars, JPZ66.

The levers are Diacompe aero style, decent looking ones though.

Ah - part of the mystery solved - I was wondering who made the levers. The escargo routing was a bit of nice craftmanship - that's for sure. The cabling had a little bit of wear at those points, to be expected, but still, overall, a cool feature.
It is a bizarre mix of features - it would be really interesting to see the history of what got put on when. The Look pedals, of all the components, are the most garish. Almost everything else, from 10 feet, looks like it fits.

I wish all of the valuation threads here ended with some closure like this. People usually just come, ask a few questions, then disappear.

Well, at least I know there's a good community out there for my other bike related Q's. And I'm getting on that dinner asap.
