Bianchi Limited, early 90's?

I got this nice Bianchi. One owner, before me, he said he bought the bike around 90...91.
Big frame, 25" probably. Interested what year it is and the resale value.
In my opinion is around 300$.
Shimano 600 group.
Needs new cables, bar tape, seat, cleaning of course and tires.
What is your opinion, guys?

It's a 1988 or 1989 model. Made in Japan or Taiwan. Serial number should tell us for sure.

Bikes: No-name LH drive track. Also ride an Exxon Graftek, a Masi, a Trek R200 or a RR Boneshaker for fun!

$300 is a bit high for the presented condition IMHO - too many things in poorly maintained shape.
That seat is pitiful and likely speaks to the condition of the moving parts - ridden into the ground. YMMV however.

Resale in Ohio is probably less than what you paid. In Tampa's stellar booming vintage market I'd hesitate @$200

Oh, I did not pay 300.
I paid less than 120, which I made on a Schwinn world Sport, made in Taiwan

This one was manufactured in Japan and is definitely a 1989 model.

I don't know anything about the quality of this frame but the 600 tri color group is in nice shape. Those Araya rims are getting harder to come by as well. Probably $150 and $60 for those items cleaned up on eBay. Unfortunately, the full bike is probably worth only a few $ more with $250 being the limit in my estimation.

Agreed. $300 is high unless you part it out, which might get you close to that number. I'd say $200-250 max. as it is.

Maybe I should part it.
150 for the group,
60 the rims
150 for the bike build with other components

+1
If you're trying to get the most money you can go ebay, however could be a while. You want it sold quicker, go c&v sales and help some people out. Good luck.

RE: Bianchi Limited, early 90's

I picked up the exact same Bianchi for $150 also in need of overhaul and reconditioning. The year of this one is from 1986. I've been able to spot the original Bianchi catalog pdf to confirm it.

Welcome to the forums. An '86 Bianchi Limited is very different from the pictured '89 Limited. The 600 group was different 6spd, freewheel instead of a cassette (I think) non aero brake cables and polished silver finish. The '86 frame is made in Italy with a Columbus frame and has a much nicer looking fork.

I’d have to disagree, as much as I wish it was Italian made...the pictures show this Bianchi is Tange steel and not Columbus, and is in fact made in Japan. The higher end models of that year were all Columbus except this one. I tried posting the catalog link but the forum isn’t letting me. But just google 1986 Bianchi catalog and it will show this exact bike

I’ll double check the catalog but I am certain the ‘86 Limited had a Columbus frame. If your bike is EXACTLY like this one then it must be an 89.

Do do you have a link to the catalog?

There's no need to double check catalogues. The OP's bicycle is definitely a 1989 model. This particular Bianchi logo was only used in 1988 and 1989, at least in America. The Shimano 600 Ultegra components seen on it, weren't even manufactured until the 1988 model year. However, the definitive identifier is a serial number indicating it was manufactured in January 1989. Everything is consistent with the 1989 model. If this exact bicycle is in a 1986 catalogue, then the person posting it has misidentified the year of the catalogue, which unfortunately is a fairly common occurrence on the internet.

is there any way of deciphering the frame serial number to know if what I have is indeed an 88’ Limited? The compnonent group identifier mentioned makes sense...mine has a Shimano 600 tricolor group, 7 Speed uniglide cassette, aero brake levers.

The serial number coding for Bianchi's two major Asian sources are well known and documented. Post you serial number and I should be able to tell you the frame manufacturing date, down to the month.
